Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The first thing to remember is that this is Florida we’re talking about, so you’ll find a lot of people with tans and sun-streaked hair (if you go for the penguin look, this may not be the place for you to pick up a date). Many people—for some reason, mostly girls—tend to wear rather small clothes. Anyway, when they’re not sun-worshipping, a good number of students is busy praying to polo or Hollister. This is not really a bad thing because guys in khaki shorts and button-down shirts are pretty easy on the eyes, as are girls in low-cut rugby shirts and short tan skirts, and if Abercrombie is not your gig, there are more than enough people at UF who would agree with you. Basically, you can get away with any look you want when your school is the size of a town, and a liberal, laid-back town at that.

Basically, the sorority girls have their own style. They mainly wear dresses and stylish sandals to class or Nike running shorts. Fraternity guys will always be seen sporting khaki shorts and a polo at a fraternity/sorority function. Whether you are going out on the town or just heading to class, chances are you will see someone of the opposite gender who is attractive. It is up to you whether you actually do something about it.

DIVERSITY

Seriously I could describe people all day - my school is HUGE. There is every fashion statement (including the ones that don't actually exist), every combination, every look, possible to find on this campus. Students have their own niches and friend groups - you have relationships within these groups and through other extra-curriculars and events you participate in. Greek life is huge.

Students Are Varied

At UF, you'll find a pretty broad rang of kids, from extremely smart to "how-am-I-going-to-the-same-school-as-this-person?" status. Same goes for looks, although I would say that the boys and girls generally look pretty good. In terms of interests, though, there isn't all that much diversity: I would say about 70% or more are members of fraternities/sororities, and heavily party. On top of that, relationships are not as common as hook-ups, and study habits are rather last-minute tutoring service oriented. A lot of school spirit, though, from those always in the library to the ones in the football stadiums.

All Around Attractive

I'd say for the most part, UF students are attractive. We like staying fit and working out; of course, there will always be those who don't care much about appearance, but I think overall UF is a very pretty school!

Facts

Social Scene

It's almost completely impossible to characterize the entire student body's social attitudes, but in general, people at UF are very outgoing. There aren't that many kids who will just walk up to unknown classmates and introduce themselves, but then again, anyone who does will probably be pretty well received. And of course, within their own cliques and social groups, Gators are usually quite gregarious.

Hookups or Relationships?

At a campus this big, there's plenty of both. You'll hear a lot of people talk about significant others, but in most circles, there isn't exactly a prejudice against more random hookups.

Dress Code

In a state where December temperatures can reach 80 degrees, students like to keep their wardrobes pretty casual. For both guys and girls, owning at least one pair of khaki shorts is a must. Flip-flops are a staple, as is a Gator T-shirt—just don’t overdo the Gator gear. During the summer, it can rain nearly every day, so galoshes and a trendy umbrella should be on any future Gator’s shopping list. Gainesville temperatures do plunge unexpectedly and frequently, so plan accordingly. If you decide to roll out of bed 15 minutes before class in your pajamas, you won’t be the only one. Tank tops, basketball shorts, and track pants are all common class attire.
