In general, Gainesville has the best of all possible worlds regarding weather. During the summer, it’s extremely hot and sunny, with afternoon showers almost every day. Fall goes from October until maybe the beginning of December—cool enough for jeans during the day, a little chilly at night (e.g., perfect sleeping weather), lots of sun, and enough autumn color to cause South Floridians to run to their botany professors in sheer delight. Winter can get a little cold—it’ll be in the 50s, 60s, and 70s during the day, but mornings and evenings can get down to the 30s or even the 20s. And when March rolls around, the temperatures are a lot like those in fall, but the light changes, and you can tell it’s going to start heating up.
Gainesville's weather is very unpredictable. It's suggested that students carry an umbrella with them wherever they travel to. One minute the sky could be perfect, the next minute you can be covered in rain water and smell like a wet dog. The weather is very bipolar. In the wintertime, bring a heavy jacket, since it is very frigid. Also, having long-sleeved Gator gear would not be a bad decision for those cold game days in the fall.
