Athens definitely has a college town feel. The students are comfortable there and are always raving about a coffee shop or pizza place there.

The programs are great and so are the professors! But just like any other school, college is what you make of it.

Weather in Georgia is funny but once you get used to it, it's no longer a problem. Right now, we're in autumn and it hasn't stopped getting past 75 degrees until last week. So that was a bit unusual but it's starting to get colder now.

I can only speak for my program and there is not a lot of diversity. My program is made up of primarily white women. There are very few women of other races and even fewer men.

The application reply was quick. They updated me on what extra information I needed to submit. Once I submitted them, it was quickly applied and processed.
UGA gives a checklist and if that's promptly followed, everything is easy.
It's always good to have a good recommendation letter and good volunteer background or club activities background

The program is straight-forward. It has a clear pathway I can follow in order to earn the degree. Workload really depends on what professor and what classes I choose out of the choices I have. The facilities are very localized and friendly. One of the headchairs always sends many information about internship opportunities
College Junior 2013-10-26T16:44:03Z
I wouldn't do it all over again. It requires a lot of pre-requisits in order to take basic classes of my major and it took me a while to get a start on my degree. My career goals are to work with the EPA located near UGA and see about going into a larger scale field. However, the EPA is very prestigious to get an internship for..

Guys & Girls:
There are so many attractive people on this campus it's almost scary. However, most of these attractive people belong to sororities and fraternities and they exclusively date each other. Most students date within their race, mostly because the white students are not interested in getting to know minority students at all. We all dress the same though for the most part, but you can see certain styles that belong to certain groups. Frats with the sunglasses and khakis, sororities with the oversize t-shirt and running shorts, black greeks in their letters, hipsters in flannel, etc.

You literally can get drugs anywhere if you want. It's ridiculous, underage drinking at UGA is one of the biggest problems because it is so easy to gain access to liquor. Also, recreational drugs are common but for some reason aren't as addressed as alcohol use; however that is eventually going to have to change because so many students are experimenting with cocaine, marijuana, and other harmful substances. If there is one thing UGA has to try to fix is the ease of accessibility to drugs students here have.

Living on campus is awesome. I feel like living in the "horrible" freshmen dorms is an experience that everybody has to go through, and even though you're not as comfortable there as you would be at home, the social atmosphere is awesome. It's like living with a bunch of noisy, crazy relatives. Plus, they keep everything as clean as possible and they do try to fix complaints with reasonable efficiency. Living on campus freshmen year (and as many years as you choose to) is one of the best things about going to UGA.
College Sophomore 2013-10-24T19:02:07Z
Honestly, you can get away with some pretty extreme things depending on WHERE you live on campus. If you live on the west side in the freshmen dorms, they watch you a little bit closer. If you live on the east side, they could care less what you do (for the most part). If you live in south or north campus, no one really expects you to do anything crazy because that's where the chill, laid-back students often choose to live. Overall, UGA's campus is not that strict; you're an adult, and as long as you act like one you have all the freedom in the world.

I feel like the students are very diverse- I have many friends of different races and sexual orientaions.

We have wonderful facilities and people really seem to love going to games! The whole town is in red and black.

At the art school the computer lab is great- they have all the latest softwares to use!

Campus buses: Although the routes can be very confusing at first, the buses are fast and have many stops. Things can get a little slow/behind schedule at the times with highest congestion, but this is rather inevitable. The bus drivers are helpful and watchful and usually happy to wait for someone obviously running to catch the bus. Each route hits each stop on average at about 10 minutes, and many routes are similar enough to get you where you're going anyway. Oh, and did I mention it's free, and not just to students? Also, there's a great app for tracking when the next bus you need at a stop is coming and what route each bus takes.
Athens buses: There seems to be a lot of routes but less stops since it is a wider area to cover. The prices seem to be kind of high to me, but for people living off campus it is very helpful. They are not nearly as frequent at each stop, leaving students waiting sometimes 40 minutes for the next bus.
Megabus: There looks like only a few rides a day out of Athens, and of course only from one location. It is admittedly very appealing to ride for about $1 to Atlanta though!!

While I haven't eaten at any non-chain restaurants here yet, there seems to be a very wide variety, especially in downtown Athens at the north of Campus. There are lots of the chain restaurants as well, and they're all the same ones as at home, so I don't have to feel like I'm missing anything. Of course, with Celiac Disease, it can be difficult to branch out because you can't trust always trust the cooks/chefs of these businesses, but there seems to be a huge culture of gluten free students here! There's even a group and page about it through the school, so I know there's got to be lots of safe places.

There are no requirements to get into the biology major in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences at UGA. Unlike Grady college and Terry college, students in biology in Franklin can change majors easily and do not have to apply after finishing their core coursework. Because of this, biology is often one of the largest majors on campus, with many of the students not being as serious about the program as they should. Thus, a large percentage of classes are filled quickly, with many students withdrawing in the middle of semesters and wasting the space in the classes.

I graduated with a bachelor of science in biology. The class sizes were often very large for the more general classes, such as introductory biology and organic chemistry, but the professors were always very helpful in office hours with one on one time. The advisers for the biology major were typically always available, by email or walk-in hours. They were knowledgeable about what classes worked for which requirements, and what professors were the easiest or most enjoyable. Overall, I enjoyed my major and the faculty that came along with it.

Athens has some of the best dining options around. Downtown is a hub for good food, but there are also many places around town. Prices range from cheap to costly, but every option on the spectrum is great
College Senior 2013-10-14T13:45:30Z
Academic honesty is a huge deal with basically any professor you have. If caught cheating, they will report it and you will be paneled. Also the campus police and Athens-Clarke county police definitely have a presence around Athens. Road blocks are set up randomly and they will arrest you if they have probably cause.
College Sophomore 2013-10-11T19:44:31Z
Athens is full of fun restaurants and places to eat, especially downtown. There are definitely places to go that have reasonably inexpensive prices but awesome food.
College Junior 2013-10-10T21:51:23Z
UGA has some of the best dining halls I've seen. We have five different ones and they all offer something different. They've always got a lot to choose from and the food is of good quality. There are many seniors that are still on the meal plan because it's that good.
College Junior 2013-10-10T21:49:19Z
You can find restaurants on basically every street in Athens! There are plenty to choose from. There are many different food types offered, you can always find something open, and many offer student discounts. Choo Choo's is a popular place that offers Japanese style food for really cheap and they're open late into the night!
College Sophomore 2013-10-07T13:23:39Z
While generally reliable, the buses are often late, particularly later on in theday, which can be an inconvenience if you are in a hurry to get to class. The routes the buses go cover most of the city.

I'm not overly fond of the nightlife, but from what I hear, it is very fun and very crazy. In addition, there are various house parties that are excellent.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
