Parking is great... IF you register on time. If you don't register on time you could get placed on the wait list for a very long time

Student Center Is Great – The student center at UGA is called the Tate Center. Lots of students go there to hang out between classes and have a great time.

A Bit of a Foreign World – Financial Aid at UGA is really difficult to come by in scholarship for. More than half the student body is in HOPE/Zell scholarship, and a decent number get UGA aid too. The Financial Aid office though is really a hard nut to crack as a normal outsider student. The workers there will help you though if you go in knowing what you are looking for. If you don't really know though it can be a long a difficult process. They do try to help though and are always available for walk ins which is a lot more than can be said for other colleges. Best advice is to walk in knowing what you want to talk about and you will likely get pointed in the right direction at least.

Truly a Classic City – The four years I spent at UGA were the best of my life so far. I'll be coming back to get my masters degree, and I really do dread the day I have to leave. You can get the classic college experience here. From greek to geek, UGA has it all. Game days are amazing experiences, but if that's not your thing there are plenty of places to get away to on Saturdays. Being in north GA really gives so many options, from visiting national parks to going to see friends at schools in TN, NC, or SC. However, you'll be hard pressed to find a real reason to leave Athens. Everything is right here! There's a great club scene, music, plenty of green space for sports, and so many libraries and volunteer opportunities it'll make your head spin. Public transportation is a bit lacking so you'll want a car or to live on campus. Meal plan is a must for freshmen and not a bad choice for upper classmen. (It's nationally rated and absolutely delicious!) The campus culture is pretty diverse, but with all of the clubs it can take a while to find where you actually fit in. Once you do however it is amazing. Be sure to crack down on the books though. UGA has plenty of study spaces and a lot of tutoring available so be sure to take advantage of it while you can! There isn't anything that I couldn't say about UGA it's a wonderful place and if you get the opportunity to call yourself a bulldog be proud, and adfter four years you'll truly appreciate the following phrase: "Once a Dawg, Always a Dawg. How sweet it is!"

Walking Is Always an Option – Buses are pretty frequent, but can obviously get crowded. The campus is large but it's honestly possible to walk everywhere.

There are quite a few frat parties that can be fun throughout the year. To me that scene gets really old, really fast. Going to bars downtown with your friends is ALWAYS a good time. Just don't jaywalk!!!!

Athens Is the Best – No matter what you will enjoy your time in Athens. North campus and downtown are my favorite places during the day because it is so beautiful. Classes are challenging (as they should be) so sometimes it's hard to balance your priorities.

Punishments Are Appropriate – I believe that the University of Georgia places importance on issues that should be taken seriously. Such as academic honesty and drinking. The consequences for going agaisnt school policy seem apropriate.

OK but Repetitive – The campus dining is great at first. But after a while, eating at dining halls can get pretty tiring since it's the same food all the time. The food is great quality and everything, it's just old after a while. Also, they close at 2 on Sundays so the 7 day meal plan is kind of a rip off.

Easy Access – UGA has a great transit system that allows students to go wherever they need to at almost anytime. There is also a great local government transit system that will help fill the gaps for all residents.

athens has several great restaurants including the Varsity with all the classic american foods

Bar Scene – This school has a bar scene like no other. There are over 90 bars and everyone is out.

Not only is the campus gorgeous with the variety of gardens blossoming all year long and historic buildings but downtown Athens is also a very unique and beautiful part of Athens. It fun just walking around downtown and window shopping. There is also a huge intramural field with all kinds of sports fields and a medium sized pond with a jogging trail. Downtown Atlanta is about an hour away which is really convenient. Campus is safe enough to walk around at night with a bunch of friend , however, there are break ins in Athens but off-campus.

Warm All Year Long. If you love warm weather then Athens is for you. During the summer it's really hot and dry, during the spring there are flowers absolutely everywhere, during the fall there is foliage everywhere and the winters are not too bad. The weather is bearable all year long plus its nice to see the different seasons when you are walking to class.

I was kind of overwhelmed by the size of the campus at the beginning of the year but in a few weeks I knew where almost everything was. I really enjoyed walking to class because the scenery is beautiful especially the variety of gardens at UGA. Classes were tough but there is help everywhere if you look for it. There is always something to do on campus or downtown Athens. Everybody from the faculty to the students are really nice.

To Be or Not to Be a Math Major – At first I was a little concerned about being a math major because I've always heard how hard it was but there are a lot of tools and resources that are accessible to me. First of all, when you're a math major at the University of Georgia, you get emails from the math department about once a month about different internships, club meetings, different scholarships, and different math events on campus. Recently, someone has set up a math major facebook group so now it is easier to communicate with each other with our different math problems or just to socialize. There are numerous areas to get math tutoring if you need it which includes the Matrix, which is an unknown lounge for math majors and you'll get an email of its location once you declare a math major. And the great thing about the teachers are most of them teach numerous sections of math so if you find a teacher that you really like, you can continue with them or if you don't you can find another one. But the problem with the math teachers is that some of them have accents or teach pretty fast which is why you need to take advantage of their office hours which are actually really helpful.

Health & Safety:
Safe on Campus and in Town – I have never felt unsafe walking around UGA campus or downtown Athens but there are some "sketchy" areas between the two. There is some government style housing surrounding the dorm areas of campus. No one here has ever bothered me but there seems to be a little underlying tension and a sense of us being the "haves" and them being the "have nots". Like I said, I have never had a problem but I find I try to be much more aware of my surroundings when I am walking through these neighborhoods.

While Greek Life at UGA can likely be a great experience for someone born and raised in Georgia, it is not very welcoming for students from other parts of the country. Basically, for guys, if you do not live close enough to Athens to hang out with the frats over the summer, you miss out on a lot of bonding and learning about which Frat might be the best fit for you. When you arrive in the fall, many of the Frats already know who they want and those guys are almost always from Georgia. The problem really seems to lie in the fact that rush is done in the fall. I think it would help with diversity if rush was held in the spring only. That way you could get to know the Frats and they could get to know you over the fall. The couple of fraternities who seem to be open to out of staters are pretty weak. One of them is currently on suspension, really out of control, and probably headed for being kicked off campus at least for a few years. So, for those non-Georgian guys, I say, find another way to connect to a community. There are lots of other groups and clubs to join that will be less exclusive and you will meet a more diverse group of other students.

Career Center – The carrer center is very helpful! IF you need help getting an internship, job or picking a major they will truly help. The major program academic advisors are available most of the time and they truly do help by giving suggestions and listening to your concerns.

Hard but Worth It – UGA is definitely not a easy school. The professors make you work hard and they have a heavy work load but if you are an intelligent person and a hard worker it can be done; you can succeed. The professors do care and most are willing to work with you. Registration process is not difficult but getting the classes you want are sometimes a struggle since the school is very competitive especially with classes that are needed most. Register early!!!!

Health & Safety:
There are alot of campus police who are always on duty. I have not had any crime issues since I've been on campus. The residential halls are very safe because of the precautions they take like having to show your id and having to scan your hand in order to get to the building.

Great College Place! I love UGA! There is always something to do especially on campus! Which is good for students who do not have transportation. Everyone is friendly and you meet and learn new things everyday!

Try to Get in Honors College – I'm about to be a sophomore and most of my teachers have been helpful. However, really try to get into Honors College because classes are smaller and teachers are much more attentive.
College Junior 2012-06-08T06:14:23Z
Depends on What You're Talking About – RAs are strict about alcohol/drugs in dorms and who enters the dorms. Have not dealt with campus police.
College Junior 2012-06-08T06:10:07Z
Very Specific – There are scholarships at Georgia, but most of them have very narrow guidelines. For example, you have to be in Honors College or want to study abroad during the fall in China.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
