It can get really hot in Georgia during Spring/Summer. However, I love the sunny weather and I often study outside. Winters are pretty cold, which I don't like. We might get snow once a year, but it's rare. Sometimes ice storms.

Muy Bien – The food is great, but can become cold due to few students during Maymester.

The computers can become crowded during midterms, but mostly do to procrastination

Great College Town – Athens is the perfect college town with tons of cool restaurants and bars downtown.

Nontraditional students beware – I came to the university after having been out of college for a while due to family obligations. Needless to say, I was much older than the majority of UGA students. While the academics and the professors are stellar, it was the student body that completely turned me off. UGA is a great school with great academics, and it was appalling to see that the main focus of some of the students was joining a greek organization, "going out", or cheating off their friends from the previous semester. Be prepared to have students shove past you in crowded auditorium classrooms without saying "excuse me" or to distract you while mindlessly texting on their iphones during class. When called out for using their phones by the professor, some students had to the audacity to get irritated! Not to mention, some of the greek kids are blatantly racist to black students, I couldn't believe my eyes! Academics + professors earn UGA an A+, but the student body brings it down to a B-. If only these kids knew how good they had it with their hope scholarships, maybe they would grow up.

I've Never Heard of Anyone Getting Punished – I've never personally heard of someone getting punished for anything like underage drinking. UGA often ranks as the number one party school in the nation, so I would say the faculty is pretty aware that it goes on. Just don't be blatantly obvious about it, and you won't have any problems.

Athens, Georgia consistently ranks as one of the best college towns in the nation. From experience, I can say it certainly does not disappoint. There are a variety of things to do in and around Athens from a thriving downtown bar scene to local musical concerts to outdoor activities to shopping. There's something for everyone. As the home of the Georgia Bulldogs, UGA is all about sports especially football season. The tailgating that takes place before kick-off is almost more popular than the game itself. But everyone gathers inside Sanford Stadium to cheer on the Dawgs. Gooooooo Dawgs! Sic' 'em! Woof woof woof woof!

There are tons of computers in many of the buildings especially the learning center. I'm not as familiar with East Campus, but I know many of the buildings on North Campus have computer labs. The WIFI is always available and easy to access using your student login. Both Mac and PC computers are available to use and are rarely crowded, if ever. However, the vast majority of students have their own computers. We also have a print lab that you can usually get in and out of in under two minutes. They do a variety of printing from black and white to color and posters.

If You Need It, They'll Help You Find It – Almost all of the UGA students from Georgia receive HOPE which really cuts down on costs as well as other scholarships for need based aid. If you are in need of a scholarship, from my experience, UGA will help you find one and make sure that you can go there.

Something for Everyone – The cuisine alone is to die for in Athens. There are so many different types of food and price ranges that will satisfy anyone. The range of things to do is astounding as well. There is classical theater as well as mid range to plays that seem to be done in back alleys on a variety of subjects and eras. The club scene is fantastic if that is what you are in to. There are the mainstream bars for those who just want to drink, and 18 and older club to cater to those students without a fake ID and the 40 watt club for those who just want to listen to their favorite indie band or Cine to see artistic documentaries and movies that most do not see in regular theaters. There are also many festivals for those that somehow get tired of all of the everyday attractions in Athens. There are international fairs, folk fairs, organic food fairs, and political fairs to feed the mind as well as the stomach. Who could disagree that Athens is amazing?

A World of Cultures in One Town – There are mostly white students on campus with other races making up around 20% of the student body by my estimation. However, the school tries to include each of the races in every student's experience. For example, there are many African American Fraternities and Sororities as well as many clubs and diversity fairs to get the word out. There is an Indian Heritage club as well as a performance group that is all black that addresses the average life of a black person and performs only plays written by African Americans as opposed to those by other races. There are many Latin groups that educate others about Latin American Culture as well as groups that organize study abroad trips specifically to those countries. There are muslim, jewish, Buddhist, and any other religion that you can think of organizations represented on campus. Although I came from a predominately white suburban neighborhood, I feel like I know so much more about each culture because of what I learn in different classes as well as through cultural outreach programs.

Dorms Are Great but Expensive – Freshmen dorms like Brumby and Creswell are small and usually $2,000 or more. I think the showers in Brumby where built for toddlers because no girl that lives there can take a shower while standing up straight. ECV (the upper classmen dorms) is even more expensive at $ 3,000 and up per semester. The apartment style rooms in ECV are the best on campus, though all you have is a fake kitchen with no oven so you have to go down stairs to the kitchen if you want to bake or cook something.

Underage Drinking – The police here are pretty strict about underage drinking. It's pretty simple don't get caught doing it or your definitely going to get in trouble.

Not Very Diverse – Don't get me wrong there are many people of many different ethnicities at the University of Georgia but I think this school claims to be a little more diverse than it actually is. Approximately 73% of my freshmen class is Caucasian. I guess this is a huge improvement over what it was like fifty years ago but like everywhere you will still find racist red necks here. The academics here are great as long as you are a minority student willing to put up with the occasional racist joke or clarify a common miss conception.

UGA offers a huge variety of majors to choose from. We are best known for our business schools and science. I don't recommend doing engineering at UGA as it is still growing and not accredited. But anything else: arts, sciences, business are wonderful choices to work from.

Classes can get tough so its best to go look for help early. The university offers many tutoring resources and many which are free. All professors are required to have office hours so go up to them and ask for help too.

We are known for the best food services. The dining halls are buffet style and always have a huge variety to choose from for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Unlike other schools, we don't have much to complain when it comes to food. Next to football, good food is our priority. Our dining halls always make an effort for special occasions and changes up dining time with something new or entertaining.

Off Campus – Living off campus is actually a lot better than on campus because it is a lot cheaper than on campus housing plus you don't have to live in a crappy dorm. There are options from sharing a house to apartments and townhomes all which cater to a student population. Some are so close to campus that you can just use the bus and not pay for parking.

The weather here at UGA is awesome! It stuns me to see how little it rains here compared to my hometown, which is not even 45 minutes away from campus. It sunny and comfortable for most of the fall and spring. It can get cold during the winter, but having a good winter jacket can fix that. It is the best weather that I have been in in my life.

Great at First but Got Old – All of the dining halls were great to eat at and I enjoyed meeting with friends to go on a late night run to our 24 hour dining hall, called Snelling. However, as the year progressed, I found myself eating the same things everyday and it just got tiring. Also I was disappointed in the limited options there are in dining halls during the weekend.

Guys & Girls:
Everyone Is Good Looking – UGA has a plethora of very attractive girls. Most of them are sweet southern girls and are fun to be around. Also UGA has been ranked as the number one school for hot guys, which is a bragging right that us guys can hold now. But in my opinion, the most attractive girls in the country can be found here in Athens.

The parking on campus is ok in my opinion. The only complaint I have is that it can be hard to get a spot on campus if you don't register early.
College Junior 2012-05-22T16:56:16Z
Despite UGA's name as a party school it stil has high quality academics. It offers a little something for everyone and allows them to tailor their studies to fit what they are passionate about. Many research opportunities and the football games are fantastic when you attend with friends.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
