Unique Town – The downtown area of Athens has its own unique culture and personality that many students love

The university does a good job with its policies. The one that is really strict is academic dishonesty, but that is necessary

I love the restaurants downtown because there are so many different options and food choices

The nightlife is what makes UGA so popular for so many people

Better Than I Thought – The fact that we do live in Georgia means that there are many conservative Republican students here. But I was also surprised about how many different cultural and religious groups are actually at UGA

Serves Its Purpose – While the residence halls aren't really ideal (they are old, outdated, etc), they do serve their purpose. The high rises are really fun and social.

I'm indifferent. I like the winter weather though

Really Tough – The process of getting into the Accounting major is very competitive. One needs to apply for the business school and have a strong feel for the required classes such as ACCT 1101. Its very hard at UGA so many take it elsewhere but once in the program, it only gets tougher.

but I cannot say the same for other scholarships. I have not used or received any scholarships.

Guys & Girls:
Eclectic Mix – UGA has more than 30,000 students, ranging from the typical teen freshmen to mature non-traditional students. There are more girls than guys, but the majority of students are open and friendly. All you have to do to meet your classmates is say hello.

UGA is centered in the classic southern city of Athens. The music scene in this town filled with Victorian and Greek revival homes is incredible. During the day, there is a little bit of something for everyone's taste. At night, the bars along College Ave and downtown comes to life. The location is also convenient for day-trips. Lake Lanier is an hour north (NW) and Atlanta is an hour south (SW). The city's population skyrockets on Saturdays in the fall, as 90,000+ fans pour into Athens to tailgate and occasionally find a football game is going on at the same time.

The MLC Is the Place to Be – The MLC is basically the heart of campus, where all students can go to print, attend variety of classes, study in any of the multiple study rooms, work at a computer station, print in black and white or color, utilize the special media room, and chill at the Jittery Joe's cafe.

So Many Choices – There are multiple bus routes and bike lanes to use

Fun, Exciting, Interesting! There are various parties and clubs all throughout campus that allow everyone to enjoy themselves during their time at UGA. There are parties for everyone. There are parties for those who drink, for those who don't drink, for those who are looking for a fun time; there is something for everyone. Most clubs are 18+ so everyone gets a chance to dance and have fun on weekends. There is always something to do, whether it is hanging out with your friends, eating/ partying downtown or meeting new people at frat parties.

The permits are expensive and because of the horrible lottery system oftentimes the allocation of spots is skewed. There is ample parking for students after 6pm & on weekends, but it gets full sometimes when large organizations meet at the student centers.
College Junior 2012-04-22T05:49:54Z
Alcohol is rampant at UGA, especially underage drinking. Weed is popular too, but probably not as much. Some crazies do more things, but that's mostly on the fringes of the social scene.

Technology Fees Put to Good Use – UGA has successfully given access to all sorts of programs thanks to its technology fees. While most students have their own computers and many bring laptops to class, there are plenty of computers available for student use both in college-specific labs and the student learning center. The Grady College in particular gives its students access to Macs for projects involving highly graphic and multimedia content. There are also Macs in various other places on campus for those who need to use Mac-oriented programs, or just prefer the OS over Windows. Printing is available in the two central buildings on campus for small fees. Wireless access is free and consistent throughout campus, students need only log in with their unique student ID.

Lots of Free Transport – The city buses are free and so are the campus buses. The buses run every 15 minutes so there is no excuse to be late for class. Many apartment complexes have shuttles that run to and from campus every day.

Drinking Is Most Popular – Not sure about the drugs and alcohol but it seems that a lot of people talk about going to parties and getting drunk a lot. I've seen several classmates that were hung over the next day.

There are lots of places available depending on your preference. Athens is a very expensive place so you can save a lot by getting a room mate. Parking on campus is really expensive but the buses are free including the city buses. Many apartment complexes offer shuttle service to school and shopping so you won't need a vehicle unless you don't want to use public transport. Security is pretty good but anything can happen if you're not careful. Very pet friendly city because of the local vet school so most apartments allow pets. There are also a lot of choices in walking distance of the campus.

Being recently accepted into the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy c/o 2016, I am thrilled with my program. Technically I haven't started it yet, but I've been Pre-pharmacy for 3 years leading up to this acceptance, so it's been a long time coming. My career goals are to, after finishing my fours years of Pharmacy School and two years of residency training, work in a hospital as a Pediatric Pharmacist. I have no doubts about finding a job.

Beauty of the Campus – With UGA being the oldest school in GA, it has a lot of old buildings that are just cool to look at. The great thing about Athens being completely dedicated to the college is that it lets the campus be really spread out and there is so much green space to relax on. You don't feel like you are just in a sea of buildings. As a transfer student from Georgia State in downtown Atlanta, it is definitely a change for the better. You have room to breathe and even though there are a ridiculous number of students enrolled at UGA, you don't really notice it unless you are outside of Tate at the class change.

Lots of Options! Athens has so many off-campus apartment options because the entire city is geared towards the college. There are two types: Off-campus student housing (basically apartment style dorms...just off campus) and actual off-campus apartments. There are a wide variety of price ranges from $300's to $2000's, wide variety of layouts (# of bedrooms, bathrooms, townhouse vs. apartment vs. studio vs. loft), and many have a choice of furnished or unfurnished. Whatever you living needs, you will find something to suit it in Athens. The only thing to pay close attention to is the area around the place you choose. Some are quite "sketchy".
Sorry, there are no reviews.
