College of Ed – I am currently in the College of Education with an intention to be an Athletic Training major. My major of choice is very high demand and you must be accepted into your particular major. I hope to apply next spring to my major so that I may start working on certain credits the following fall. So far I have enjoyed being in the College of Ed although I have yet to have an advising appointment with them. I will know a lot more about this program after I have had contact with my advisor.

Guys & Girls:
The Classic City – Our university is big on diversity and there is a great variety among the people that go here. Some may think that UGA is nothing but fraternity boys and sorority girls, but in reality UGA has so much more to offer. All different sorts of races are represented here, but the majority is White/Caucasian females and males. The girl to guy ratio from what I hear is about 60% girls to 40% boys. It may even be a little higher than that. Sometimes it seems like there are way more girls than guys, but if you look close enough, there are plenty of great guys to go around!

Best College Meal Plan – UGA definitely deserves to be considered one of the nation's top in food services. Their menus vary greatly on a daily basis, and the dining hall stations are exceptional. I absolutely love the specialty stations such as Joe at the O, Stir Fry, Omelet Stations and you can't forget the ECV smoothies! Every hall has their own special things to offer. My money is well spent when it comes to the UGA meal plan, and all for a very reasonable price! I love that it is all you can eat and that you can come and go as many times as you would like. Not every college has that to offer when it comes to food services. The only drawback of these dining halls may be location. Sometimes you find yourself on parts of campus starving, but you are too far from a dining hall to go before your next class.

It's Almost Nonexistent – Right now I receive HOPE but they are continuously making that harder to obtain unfortunately.

Not Too Strict – As long as you fly under the radar you will be fine. Every now and then there is a strct RA but that's all. The cops are fair.

Lots of Drinking – Drugs aren't obviously used at UGA but I am aware that they do exist here. I do know that people smoke here but a good amount of the population partakes in drinking. Especially thanks to the large Greek population.

Health & Safety:
Police and Safety Services – The campus at the University of Georgia is very safe. There is a bus system that runs throughout the campus even in the evening. The campus police along with Athens' police secures the campus 24/7. There is even an alert system that will calloremail the parents of the students in a time of emerggency.

True College Life – Living in Athens always gives you something to do. You are never short of resources, opportunities, and fun events. Since it is located in a poorer area, many students help in a variety of service projects which really enhance one's college experience and life in general.

Great College Town – Athens is called the Classic City for a reason. It's a great small college town full of eclectic restaurants, stores, boutiques. It's known for its great music and nightlife. Come to Athens if you want days to explore and nights you will never forget.

When I first arrived at the University of Georgia, I was highly impressed by the various amenities and facilities. We have a state of the art gym that's just like a high end health center. The student center has hundred of computers on three out of its four levels, all open for student use. The campus itself is beautiful, with its lush trees and sprawling lawns.

Best Dining Hall Experience – UGA has the best Dining Halls/Commons of any school I've been to. It's all you can eat! There's so much to choose from it's hard to have the exact same meal twice if you live to spice things up.
Once you're off the meal plan, you'll forever long to be back on it. But options aren't terrible for non mealplan students, just not as varied.

Professors Very Helpful – As a first-year student, I was afraid that the professors would either a) hate me or b) be unwilling to help outside of class. The professors I have had, however, are extremely helpful and always ready to help. This is very true of the women in the Women's Studies department.

Lots of Variety – There is a lot of different food choices at the dining hall. Bulldawg bucks are also useful at restaurants off campus.

Lots of Technology Access – The SLC has so many computers for students to use. I have never experienced not being able to find a computer when I needed one.

Health & Safety:
Pretty Safe – I usually do not feel unsafe on UGA's campus, but I do not put myself in a situation to feel uncomfortable. At night time I never walk alone around UGA's campus.

There are mainly parking spots on campus that is close to all major UGA buildings. There is ample parking for you to drive to classes and residence halls. The only time parking really gets awful is during sporting events, especially football. You have to pay for parking, but parking is free during the night. Just don't park over night at most parking spots.

Strict, but Still Easy – Athens is one of the more strict counties when it comes to underage drinking in bars and clubs. The PD department here has stepped up it's policies against underage drinking especially in bars and clubs. You can get arrested, face a heavy fine, and get school probation if caught. Still, alot of people still go downtown underage, as long as you avoid doing incredibly stupid stuff, your fine. Mostly, the police just watch for students doing obvious, stupid stuff like driving drunk, public urination, causing a scene, etc. If you have common sense and good judgment, you will be good to go here.

It's There – Drugs here at UGA are no different from most other major colleges. Like others said, the most consumed drug/drink here is alcohol (what did you else did you expect?). Beer/drinks is very easy to get because of the proximity and the number of bars, clubs, convenience stores, fraternity houses, etc. Pot is also a very common substance found here in Athens. On the other hand, If your not into the drug scene, it's hard to avoid all the drugs here in Athens, but it's not impossible. The good thing is that UGA has a something for everyone, and it's up to you to decide what you want to do here.

Fully Functional Campus! All the facilities on campus are well equipped. The fully functional gym (the Ramsey Center), health center, food services registered dieticians and intramural sports complex are all well equipped to handle any health needs and excercise plans you can come up with. Speaking of Dieticians, the campus offers 4 dining halls that students can go to, one of which is open 24 hrs a day (Monday-Thursday) so that students can dine or snack happily; all four are nationally recognized and have some of the best food around-besides mom's cooking.
UGA is also well equipped to teach all majors. As an animal science major, I am very pleased that UGA has the proper facilities to house chickens, pigs, sheep, horses, and cows (both Beef and Dairy). In addition, the University has an on-campus meat processing facility that is USDA inspected and allows students to process meats and make things like sausages and beef patties. All these facilities are fully operational and gives students the chance to experience all aspects of a career field before graduating.

Athens provides the University of Georgia with the "small town" feel without sacrificing the convience of a big city. UGA students get to enjoy the luxury of using the city bus system that allows you to go almost anywhere. Say you want to go see a movie... Athens has 2 theaters on the bus route... Need a new pair of shoes? You can get to your favorite store (Target, Wal-mart, the Mall) in no time. Athens also has a skating rink and 2 bowling alleys in case you run out of things to do. In case you are interested in the music scene and/or nightlife, downtown Athens is chock-full of all the upcoming musicians, artists and dancing to satisfy your artistic needs. In terms of sports, UGA is well known for it's football and also offers up a number of other sports events whether it be basketball, soccer, baseball, half-marathons, biking, volleyball and a whole lot of others. UGA also offers GORP (Georgia Outdoor Rec Program) where students and locals can go rafting, snorkling, splunking, camping, backpacking etc. All in all, Athens is a safe and great place to live and the University of Georgia makes it all the more interesting.

Wonderful School – I love the University of Georgia because it offers the best of everything. Social life here is more than anything than I could have asked for, and more importantly the academics here are very strong, especially for a pre-med student like myself.

Buses Are Great – The bus system is very convenient, however they get packed pretty easily and frequently.

Athletic Center – The athletic facilities at UGA are fantastic. Everything you could possibly want to do are available at the Ramsey Center. We have a 50 meter swimming pool complete with all tiers of diving boards, multiple basketball, volleyball, and soccer courts. In addition, there are ten racquetball courts and two squash courts. Also a huge number of classes are provided at the center.
