Financial Aid is such a hassle. In order to get scholarship money you have to wait such a long time. Also, some of the workers are inconsiderate so they made the process that much harder. I'm not looking forward to getting my scholarships this coming Spring.

Party School – Downtown may be the only place to go around Athens, but there are tons of clubs and bars. Also there are a lot of frat parties on campus so anywhere you look you're bound to have a good time.

Guys & Girls:
Straight Out of a Movie – The girls all look the same. UGA is in the country so I guess that's why all the girls wear cowboy boots with EVERY outfit! The guys are full of school pride and are generally dressed in Georgia gear. The University of Georgia is the stereotypical college town you see in a movie where everyone is beautiful and there is always something to do.

Great Greek Scene, but Doesn't Dominate – There's definitely a great Greek scene, but it doesn't dominate the school. About half of the students are involved in Greek life. It works for some people, but it's not for everyone. Either way you will make friends and find an organization you love.
College Junior 2011-12-28T17:20:24Z
Decent Housing – There are lots of housing options on campus. From the classic high-rise dorm room, to apartment styles, and everything in between, UGA offers it. Housing is not guaranteed for upperclassmen though.

All 4 Seasons – Athens displays all four seasons, which most people like. In the summer though, it can get REALLY hot. It also rains frequently, so bring rain boots, a rain jacket, and an umbrella.
College Junior 2011-12-28T17:17:54Z
UGA has a lot of parking options, but if you're a student with a car (even if you live off campus) you should definitely get a parking pass. They're not too expensive, and it will really make your life easier.

Lots of Variety – UGA has over 150 majors to choose from. So the odds are that you will find something you like. And changing your major is pretty easy.
There are a lot of big lecture classes at UGA, but if you come in with AP credits, you can usually exempt out of those. I came in with several hours and had to take only one course before I finished all of my foundation courses and could focus solely on major classes.
Honors classes have especially small classes, which is great because it really helps you get to know the professor, learn better, etc. Plus, you register for classes WAY before everyone else. You should really apply to Honors. It's in the top 5 Honors programs in the country, and it's considered to be "an Ivy League education for half the price."

Best of Dining. Excellent meal plans and dining hall options. Great quality food.
Best of Major Options. Over 150 major options to choose from. If you really can't decide, you can even create your own major.
Best of North Campus. It's quiet, quaint, and beautiful. And there's just enough grass to lay out and read.
Best of Getting involved. Whether you go Greek or not, there's plenty of organizations to get involved in. If you somehow manage to not find anything you like, you can found your own organization!
Best of Campus-wide games. Zombies v. Humans. Enough said.

Great College Town – Athens is the epitome of a college town. Campus and the immediate area around campus is all geared almost exclusively towards students, which makes finding things to do, places to eat, etc. really easy. There are always great sporting events (football) and tickets are usually free or really cheap for students. Downtown has a fantastic music scene that you shouldn't miss out on. If there are big events (big concerts, etc.) that you want to attend, Atlanta is about an hour away, so it's not too hard to get those opportunities too.
College Junior 2011-12-28T16:48:23Z
Drinking Trumps Drugs – UGA is very big on drinking. Very big. But there are so many students that the number of people who don't drink/do drugs is also very big. Getting into bars (even if you're underage) is fairly easy, although law enforcement has recently made getting fake IDs a bit more challenging. Honestly, if you're into drugs and drinking, it's not hard to do that. But if you aren't, there really isn't any pressure to do it if you hang out with people that don't do it, and there are plenty of other things to do that are fun and keep you sober.

I live off campus now, and I'm not on the meal plan, but I can't describe to you how much I miss it. UGA dining halls are fabulous, with multiples laid out across campus, there's always one close, and if you get a craving late night, Snelling Dining hall is open 24 hours M-Thurs. The dining hall at ECV is the BEST, freshest and greatest options. All dining halls have stations with cook to order lines, from smoothies to omelets to made to order pizzas

Not Bad. There's TONS of parking at UGA but, of course, it's way overpriced....like everything else.
College Junior 2011-12-27T22:35:58Z
Can't stand Greek life at UGA. They're mostly fake and you can't get away from them. All you ever hear about is who got alcohol poisoning at so-and-so's social. If that's what you're into though....you should love it.
College Junior 2011-12-27T22:31:35Z
UGA is HUGE. If you don't like to go downtown every night then all it is is a giant campus full of other people who like to go downtown every night. Greek life is annoying and petty and fake...but everyone buys into it. The good part is there are a lot of things you could get involved in. I just don't like the people. If you're hesitant at all about going to a big school, DON'T. You can feel like you're swallowed up in the masses even if you're involved in organizations or clubs or just have all your friends go there. It was also not fun that half of my high school went there. I wanted to start new with new people and I couldn't get away from them! Also, if you're not into football, or you were previously a fan of another football team, football season is really annoying.

UGA is a great school all around. There is always something to do! You will never be bored or lonely here! Classes can be tough, especially, if you are a science major. Professor are very helpful and there are tons of tutoring programs available. The hardest part of being at UGA is trying to maintain a balance between academics, campus clubs and organization, social life, and sleep!
College Senior 2011-12-27T00:34:31Z
Go Greek! UGA is a very southern school so the Greek scene is huge. Greeks are all over campus. Most of my friends who aren't Greek wish they would have rushed this summer it just makes it easier to make friends and get involved on campus! Lots of connections!

The Best Experience So Far – So far, I have had a great experience at UGA. I love it because I have found many ways to become involved on campus and make friends. I have found it easy to balance my social life with school and work all while having fun.

Ups and Downs of Dorm Life – Living on campus has it's perks- meeting new people and being on campus, which makes it a great thing for freshman because the first year you're here you want to meet new people and be on campus to really be involved. However, dorms tend to be really small and you don't have as much privacy as you would if you lived off campus.

PAWS Network Sometimes Unreliable – Trying to connect to the internet on campus usually is not a problem. PAWS is generally easy and fast to connect to. However, in some really crowded areas, connecting onto PAWS can take a long time, and sometimes I can't even connect to it.

A perfect balance of fun and academics. UGA is a great school to get everything you want out of a college experience. Football, Parties, Nightlife, and an amazing campus.
College Junior 2011-12-24T21:40:38Z
Go Dawgs!!! UGA has an awesome football team. It is a crazy place during football season.
College Junior 2011-12-24T21:37:04Z
Not many people do this major so its almost like being in a small student body which is great because of the smaller classes and more care to the students
College Junior 2011-12-24T21:31:25Z
Downtown Next Door. There is ALWAYS something going on. There should be no reason for you to be sitting in your dorm bored unless you opted to.
College Junior 2011-12-24T21:28:25Z
If you want food there will be food. Most places give discounts to students, very easy to find somewhere cheap to eat.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
