Party School – Last year, UGA was rated at the number one party school, and that wasn't for no reason. There are many clubs in downtown Athens which is adjacent to campus. While only a handful of them allow anyone under 18, those handful don't all keep a strict eye out for underage drinking. There are also house parties galore. Underage drinking is very common. Despite all of the partying, there isn't much of a problem with drunk drivers. There are 24hour buses that are free for students and most clubs are a short walk from dorms anyway.

Guys & Girls:
More Than a Southern School – Its true, at UGA there is a plethora of Southern Belle sorority girls and half-drunk fraternity Good ol' Boys, but thats not all there is. Athens also has a vibrant music scene where student bands play everything from bluegrass to alternative, rock, and the blues. The students at UGA have many different styles and interests. It would be difficult to classify the majority of the student population in any one particular way, except maybe polite. Everyone is extremely polite.

Despite a huga number of southern belles and good 'ol boys on campus, the University of Georgia is very diverse. There is a huge community of international students and they are supported through events like the weekly International Coffee Hour. There is a student organization for almost every international, religious, academic, or lifestyle group. The campus also puts a lot of effort into education about and acceptance of each group.

Big Campuses Offer Big Opportunities – There are SO many things you can get involved in. If you're not sure about going to a big university, do it anyway. You will find your niche and make it small fast! Some great opportunities I've discovered are the Honors Program and a great Christian community, if you want to get involved in that way. A great plus is the 24-hour dining hall and unlimited meal plan! The food is EXCELLENT.

Puddles Don't Dampen the Experience – When it rains in Athens, you'll need rain boots and a good umbrella or jacket and backpack cover. The puddles are everywhere! And don't be fooled, it does get cold! We had almost an entire week of snow days in January. But overall, the weather is gorgeous! Perfect for playing outside or studying when it's warm out!

Living on campus gives you huge opportunities to make friends. The facilities are nice and accessible, bathrooms are kept clean, small but definitely livable! Make sure to select your roommate carefully, the DawgHouse service is great for that but random roommates usually work out as well. :]

Dining Halls – Compare to other universities, UGA is really good!

Network on Campus – Network in UGA is not bad, but still can be more perfect

They are housing near but they seem to be too pricey

Free Speech Is Relegated – UGA's policy on student speech has been a point of contention during my studies here. We have only two free speech zones on campus and you must attain permission to use the space several days before you are allowed to participate. There is however, a large student push to amend the speech codes and allow more free speech spaces on campus.

Athens Feels Like Home...But Better – Athens is often described as "an oasis of blue amidst a sea of red". Political leanings aside, this statement speaks to the unique cultural, social and intellectual attractions found in this city that are hard to find in the cities surrounding Athens. UGA is central to life in Athens and the city caters well to students and faculty.

Library Is an Irreplacable Resource – As a worker in the University of Georgia's main library I see firsthand on a daily basis how valuable of a resource we have on campus. As an English major I have spent many hours utilizing the research resources available through the Georgia Library System and my grades are thankful for their availability. The main library as well as the satellite libraries on campus also employ many student workers (such as myself) providing students with much needed financial assistance while completing their degrees.

I Love It! The campus is beautiful and spacious. The history and old buildings are great and you can feel the spirit around the campus. Game days are the best, because the atmosphere is roaring with fans and alumni who love the Dawgs and all they represent!

Health & Safety:
Overall Well Done – The safety at the school is much better than I thought it would be. I have heard that the campus safety is bad, but it is not true. I feel very safe, as long as you are smart. The campus police are a little strict though but you can't really ask for leniency when safety of others is concerned i guess.

The University of Georgia offers a wide variety of options for majors and careers. It is wonderful about helping to connect students with internships at companies in and outside of Athens. The curriculum is difficult, and the work load is often times challenging but what good school doesn't take work.

It Is a Tough Process Without Having Any Help – Without help it is nearly impossible to know what to do to receive financial aid.

Its a Nightmare – Parking at UGA is terrible and the ticketing is even more ridiculous.

Awesome Contribution to My College – At UGA athletics are amazing and will continue to get better over the years.

The weather adds to the entire college life experience. Without weather, you can't enjoy a nice, sunny college day, nor the wet, dreary days where you hang out indoors with your roommate, hall mates, and other friends. The weather is what drives people to do outrageous things that college students are supposes to do. Running with shirts off in the hot summer days, sliding down huge hills in the rain, and having a massive snowball fight with hundreds of people on campus all contribute to an awesome college experience.

The Bus Saved My Life... Well My Legs at Least – The bus can be a convenience to almost everyone. Riding from one side of the campus to the completely other side is can be a hassle sometimes. The fact that you only have 15 minutes makes it worse. The buses my the University of Georgia go almost everywhere on campus, and there are multiple of buses that get you to where you need. I rely on the buses to get me places on and off campus

That's Why We're the Number 1 Party School – The police force on the campus of the University of Georgia is pretty lenient. They enforce the rules yet, they understand what it is like to be college student. Underage drinking is going to happen no matter what. However, drug related problems tend to be more serious. The police act differently upon the severity of the situation.

Financial aid at UGA is relatively easy to get processed, I feel like UGA makes it as simple as possible in making sure you receive your aid on time. There is very little requirement for the students to complete. Sometimes the ladies at the bursars office are rude though, thus preventing an A+ in this area.

Drug Free – The drug scene does not affect me on campus. I do not put myself around people who put themselves around it, so it is weird for me to think of people doing drugs. However, I do know that drugs are around, I'm not naive, but there is no peer pressure to figure out how to get some. So far, I have meant illegal drugs. Alcohol however is more readily available, but most people are cool if you do not want to drink. It is not at all parties I go to, but sometimes yes.

Greeks Have a Life – Greek life people have very social lives, but they pay to have one. They live in a bubble most times. If you want to serve the community, really serve, Greek life is not the way to go. If you want to party and get drunk, spend way too much money, and make friends who probably woludn't look at you without money, then join the Greek life. You can survive out of a sorority and be just fine.

Best DT Experience – We have the best downtown college town anywhere. You can find hipsters, nerds, jocks, and sorostitutes all partyin' it up every thursday-saturday night. We have beautiful neighborhoods off campus, and a beautiful historic North campus. We have a great art facility (though all of East campus is dubiously constructed, and is heinously inconvenient to navigate), thriving football scene, respected veterinary school, and diverse academic offerings. Just don't be afraid to move on when you've outgrown the town. Don't become a townie!
Sorry, there are no reviews.
