Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

At UGA, you’ve got dorm labs, the computers in the libraries, and the computers in the Miler Learning Center (MLC) at your disposal. The computers in the MLC are new and extremely fast, while the Internet connection at the Main Library is slow. It is a bit of a hassle to print, because to do so, it must be charged to your UGA ID, and in order to do that, you must have available funds on your card. To put money on your card, you have to go to a “money-card conversion machine.” There are a few in the main library, one in the Tate Student Center, and a few in the MLC.

The computers in the dorms have Ethernet service, but be careful downloading music as UGA monitors illegal downloads. The Ethernet in the dorms also hooks up to XBOX Live and The Playstation Network for online video game play. All of the computers in the MLC have been recently upgraded, but for advance computing and graphic design, the MLC has brand new iMacs that dual boot both OS-X and Windows operating systems. The digital media lab and the digital media wing have flatbed scanners and even a free recording studio that can be rented out.

Very Accessible

The University of Georgia has a large amount of free to use computer work areas. Each student housing area has a study room with a set of computers with available printers (that cost money) and a campus wide internet program. All the library also incudes a computer work area and as well as an area with iMacs for creative programs.

PAWS Network at UGA

The network reliability and speed is generally good at UGA, but the network generally automatically logs off when you close the computer or move a matter of feet. This is bothersome because then it requires you to log back on when you may have only stopped using the internet for a few minutes.

Slow

I have to be very honest. Though I haven't used many computers on campus, I have noticed the ones I used were extremely slow.
