Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

UGA’s facilities are impressive, to say the least. The MLC is a major asset to the campus. Aside from computers, the MLC boasts 26 new state-of-the-art classrooms, 96 private group-study rooms with dry-erase boards, and wireless Internet access. The interior of the SLC is surprisingly elegant, and during finals week, the SLC is the place to be for many students—it is open 24 hours and is generally packed the entire time. The libraries are extremely large, with many areas to study. The main library also offers a few small theaters, where students watch cultural films and newer movies, as well as lounges where students can talk louder than in normal study areas.

The Tate Student Center is centrally located on campus and has been recently renovated with an expansion doubling its size. It houses a movie theater, a game room, dance rooms, a Barbarrito’s Restaurant, and the nation’s second-largest college radio station, WUOG 90.5. Ramsey is also very popular with students. There are aerobic rooms, gymnastics facilities, pools, a rock-climbing wall, state-of-the-art workout equipment, and badminton, basketball, racquetball, and volleyball courts at every turn. You can even sign up for a personal trainer. Aerobics classes fill up fast, and there is often a wait for an elliptical machine no matter what time you go. For its impressive size, Ramsey has a surprisingly small number of machines in the gym area. However, “Sports Illustrated” ranked Ramsey as the best college fitness facility in the nation in 2004, and students flock to it. In general, facilities are good, but some buildings are in need of renovation, including many of the science facilities on South Campus and some of the dorms.

The MLC Is the Place to Be

The MLC is basically the heart of campus, where all students can go to print, attend variety of classes, study in any of the multiple study rooms, work at a computer station, print in black and white or color, utilize the special media room, and chill at the Jittery Joe's cafe.
