Apartments Are Shabby

Athens has many available apartments but most are run down. The good apartments cost an arm and a leg and have really difficult contracts to get out of.

Honors Dorm, Quad

Live on the quad and live in the Honors dorm if you can! Also ECV is really nice if you are an upperclassman. These dorms are generally larger, nicer, and quieter - if that is what you are looking for then UGA has some great options.

In State

In state tuition is the way to go, and with the Hope Scholarship it is even better. There isn't a whole lot of need based aid to go around but if you have any concerns about the Hope Scholarship being difficult to deal with, you need not worry.

City and Campus

For a small town Athens has SO MANY BUSSES. They go around campus and around town. Busses are best around campus and then getting from campus to certain apartment complexes. The further you get away from campus busses will become less frequent, but since UGA is a big campus the busses help out a lot! The system is easy to figure out and works pretty well.

The MLC Is the Place to Be

The MLC is basically the heart of campus, where all students can go to print, attend variety of classes, study in any of the multiple study rooms, work at a computer station, print in black and white or color, utilize the special media room, and chill at the Jittery Joe's cafe.

Pharmdawg

Being recently accepted into the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy c/o 2016, I am thrilled with my program. Technically I haven't started it yet, but I've been Pre-pharmacy for 3 years leading up to this acceptance, so it's been a long time coming. My career goals are to, after finishing my fours years of Pharmacy School and two years of residency training, work in a hospital as a Pediatric Pharmacist. I have no doubts about finding a job.

Awesome Weather

The weather here in Athens, Ga is awesome most of the time. The winter never gets too cold, but if by some chance it snows then classes get cancelled :). It does rain a lot but everybody just wears rainboots, and be prepared professors love taking attendance on rainy days!

SO MUCH FUN

UGA is definitely one of the number one party schools, and we've even been named number one party school. there is ALWAYS something to do, whether it be hitting the bars downtown (if you're 21 of course), going to frat parties (there are multiple every weekend), or even just going to a house party.

Big School but Not Too Big

I came to UGA because i knew they have an amazing science program. It is definitely difficult but it prepares you for your future, especially if you're aiming to go to med school. The classes are big, but if you make the effort the teachers are always there to help you out. If you take honors classes, the student/ professor relationship is MUCH better. Classes at UGA are not easy by any means, but when you're finished you will feel much more accomplished knowing you worked hard for your degree and you earned it.

Nighlife at UGA is awesome. There is always something to do. If you go downtown, there is always something different to do. If I go out every day of the night in Athens, I will find something to do.

Great Restaurants

There are many great restaurants around the campus. You never get used to eating at one place because there are many places to eat at. When in downtown Athens, you are never sad because there are many place to go and many places to go eat. Even when not downtown, there is a bulldog site in which you can order food from over 100 restaurants.

Always There When Needed.

Serving as the 24/7 emergency point of contact regarding safety and security issues affecting any of our building. The University police alongside the county police are always strolling along all the roads through out the day. During busy nights downtown, police are always found riding bicycles through town, making sure no one is publicly intoxicated and causing trouble. You may feel safe and secure with them always around because they always handle any situation that seems threatening to students and people on roads. They make the place and roads safer especially because of the drunk students on certain Friday nights and weekends.

Almost Anything You'd Want

Athens, GA where UGA is located is most definitely a college town. Football games are celebrated by the whole city, students and non-students. There are tons of quaint boutiques and coffee houses for a relaxed afternoon of shopping. As far as restaurants, Athens has everything from typical southern cuisine to international flavors and even several vegan eateries loved by many. If you wish for recreational activities to keep you active in your spare time, Athens has many: from the college's own facilities to dance studios and more. Plus, Athens itself is located in an area surrounded by other popular attractions: hiking, tubing, and rafting to the north and the city of Atlanta only an hour away.

Hard Program to Get Into but Worth It

As a Mass Media Arts major at UGA, I'm in the College of Journalism and Communications. The program is one of the harder programs to get accepted to. However, if you get accepted you can see why. The professors are extremely knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to giving you the tools you need to succeed in the work force and helping students get as many internship and study abroad opportunities as possible.

Hot...

It gets hot in Athens. Really hot. I mean feel-like-you're-going-to-melt hot. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised... After all, it is the south, so I shouldn't expect snow EVERY year. Last year, however, Snopocolypse 2011 delayed the start of the semester by a week. It wasn't really too bad, but the busses couldn't run. Spring and fall, as short as they are, are beautiful, however.

Good Campus Life.

While I didn't personally choose to continue living on campus, this university stands out in that staying on campus for more than 1 year is perfectly doable. The best dorms are the smaller dorms. Hill community, O house... At least for freshman. After that, I would opt for ECV for its apartment style rooms and proximity to the best dining hall, also called ECV. OR EVC. Or something. You'll graduate not knowing which is which... They do, however, cost more.

O house is my personal favorite for first year. The halls form tight knit communities with open doors and plenty of opportunity to hang out. Plus, it's directly upstairs from the second best dining hall, called O House.

The Highrise dorms are hit or miss: You can either get lucky and end up with cool people in a cool hall, or it can backfire and you can't relate to anyone. GIRLS: Unless you plan on immediately immersing yourself completely in greek culture, DON'T LIVE IN BRUMBY. Trust me.

Good Culture in a Good Area.

Honestly, this campus is humongous. There may be a lot of large schools with 30,000+ student bodies, but rarely will you find one with that many people that still maintain a small town feel. This school can accommodate practically any major, as it houses many subdivided colleges and schools. It is centered in a town known for it's arts and culture, further driven by the students, many of which attend the Hugh Hodgson School of Music or the Lamar Dodd School of Art. It's a place where any given day you can choose if you want to feel like you go to a university or a small school, and then just walk north or south respectively to find a place with that feel.

A Lot to Do

UGA Athens, GA has a lot. Not only are there student activities and all to do almost everyday but campus is located right in heart of downtown Athens. There are lots of stores and restaurants and coffee shops and not to mention bars. The students love to go party and drink but I don't drink so I am not with them most of the time.

Downtown

Any night of the week, people are going downtown to party at one of Athens many bars which are only a short 10 minute walk from the dorms. Many parties start at fraternity houses, and move downtown via cab rides. When things hit full swing at the bars on thursday, friday, or saturday nights, its hard to have more fun in college.

Freshman Housing

Do everything you can to live in Creswell, Russell, or Brumby freshman year. There are so many people there that making friends is easy, and most other freshman you will meet will be in the high rises as well. Also, the convenience of Bolton dining hall is great.

Police Are Ready 24/7

During busy nights downtown, police are always found riding bicycles through town, making sure no one is publicly intoxicated and causing trouble. You may feel safe and secure with them always around, but people get arrested left and right for MIPs and DUIs. Road blocks are often set up, so take precautions during nights out.

Athens Downtown

Athens is an old town that is the home to many fellow Dawgs. Though it may not be Singapore-clean, downtown is a plot not too large, where all places are walking distance from campus. Great local restaurants are located downtown, where a local coffee brewery is also seen. Breaks between classes can be spent at famous Little Italy for a slice of pizza or cold sub. Yum.

Research, Study Abroad, and Diversity the Best

UGA has some great and unique things going for it. Because it is a large public institution, nearly every professor has their own research projects going on, and if you are persistent and motivated it is easy to get involved in undergraduate research. UGA also has one of the best study abroad programs in the country. You can travel almost anywhere and study almost anything, and, if the study abroad experience you want is not available, UGA will help connect you to programs from other schools and set it up so you can still only pay in state tuition. One of the most notable things about UGA, however, is the diversity. In addition to the huge number of international students and the enormous variety of majors (you can even create your own), UGA has hundreds of student organizations.
