Downtown Athens can be reached easily by bus or by foot so restaurants off campus are convenient and great. What's especially delicious is pizza. You got, Mellow Mushroom, TransMet, Little Italy, and a few more. Then there's places like The Grill that stay open 24 hours and are amazing just because.

Downtown Athens is located at the very edge of campus, typically a 10-minute walk or a five-minute bus ride from wherever you are. The food is great, and there are a lot of different places to eat. Two of my personal favorites are Taco Stand and the Grill. Taco Stand is a fast food Mexican place that has delectable burritos and to-die-for cheese dip. It's super cheap and really quick. The Grill is a local place that's been around forever. It's 50's style, open 24 hours a day everyday, and has some of the most amazing milkshakes I've ever tasted. You must try the hand-cut fat fries with feta cheese!

The restaurants are amazing in Athens. I don't think I'll ever go hungry here. There are so many different options ranging from Japanese, American, vegetarian/vegan, Thai, Italian, and American fare. There are about a dozen little coffee shops and also big chains like Starbucks and Mellow Mushroom. My favorite place is the Grit on Prince Avenue. If I had every day to eat out at a restaurant, I would probably pick the Grit every time. Their desserts are to live for, especially the hummingbird cake.

The restaurants are about how you would expect a typical college town's restaurants to be: mostly affordable, unhealthy food available until late. There's a wide variety of places downtown, like Five Guys, The Grill, Transmetropolitan, Five Star Day Café, Last Resort Café, Farm 255, etc. Some of these are better than others. The Grill is the only place within walking distance from campus that's open 24 hours a day, but its food is sub-par. By the dorms you have Gumby's Pizza, Papa John's, Dominos, Jimmy John's Subs, and Wingster, all of which are easily within reach and affordable. So are Raising Cane's and Loco's Deli. But for a healthy meal, you'd be better off going to the grocery store and buying some healthy food yourself.

Dining hall food is fabulous. Take advantage of the meal plan. Everything you could imagine is available at one of the dining halls. The fourth dining hall, Village East, is amazing. Bulldog Café is one great place to eat and meet friends that is not a dining hall.

I like the food, but it’s not the main reason I eat at the halls. I like the dining halls because eating there is a chance to socialize. The ice cream is weird, but their other desserts are usually delicious.

The teachers I have had here are a mixed bag. I’ve had some very interesting ones and some who made class last forever. It really all depends on the subject you’re learning, and whether they can make you excited about the topic.

If a student takes the time to get to know their teacher, the teacher makes the effort to get to know the student. I have had teachers that have genuinely taken the time to help out when needed. Several of my teachers have made the content of their courses apply to my life and interests. There are lecture classes, as well as small intimate classes available for students.

I think the facilities are pretty good considering how big the school is. The places people go most, like the Tate Center, the SLC, and the Ramsey area probably are the best.

The food on campus is very good, but like any kind of food, eating it can get old after months and months of the same thing. If you eat there a good bit, yet mix it up by eating off campus, it shouldn’t matter.

Food on campus is just cafeteria food, but it’s good. You can get different kinds of sandwiches hot off the grill. You can get pizza. You can use the salad bar. Then, you can still get the different entrée that they have each night. Each dining hall offers different things on different nights, so you just have to know what you can get at each place. There are four different dining halls on campus: Snelling, Bolton, Oglethorpe, which is sometimes called O-House, and Village East. They are all good, but I always went to Snelling. It was just my personal favorite.

The food on campus is amazing. There is something for everyone, including extravagant foods such as tofu pizza, Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, salad bars, omelet stations, and ice cream tables with every topping imaginable. Whether you are in the mood to eat healthy or not, there is always something for you. Another nice feature is that the nutritional information of all the foods is available for you so you can know exactly what you’re eating. The dining halls also have specialty days, on which the dining hall is specially decorated with themes like ‘Beach Party,’ ‘Under the Big Top,’ ‘Tastes From Around the World’ and ‘Silver Platter Night.’

I’ll just give the basic gist of the dorms. Russell has 10 floors and is coed by hall, and there is always someone to party with. It’s a great place, in my opinion. Creswell has nine floors, and is coed by floor. It’s a little bit rundown, but still fun. Brumby has nine floors and is an all-girls dorm. I enjoy hanging out with guys a lot, so I wouldn’t want to live there, but some of my friends did, and they loved it. Mell Hall, Lipscomb Hall, Hill Hall, Church Hall and other places are smaller, usually comprised more of upperclassmen, and are a little more boring. I wouldn’t recommend living in any of those places if you don’t like a lot of quiet. My advice to you is that you choose Russell, Creswell, or Brumby, although the rooms are smaller.

The dorms are decent, but the social life there is incredible, to say the least. For freshmen, I recommend Russell. It is a coed dorm that houses around 1,000 students. The rooms are small, but you can loft the beds and do other things to make more space. You will meet amazing people there, also. For all-female living, Brumby is located next to Russell and houses around 900 girls. The only dorm I would avoid is Creswell. It is older and just not as nice as the others.

The dorms are alright, but not that great. They’re pretty small, but you can make do. Russell, Creswell, and Brumby are the ones most freshmen live in, so any of those would be good for a new student.

I had so much fun living in the dorms. It was kind of terrifying at first, because there were people I didn’t know everywhere I looked. But my hall was awesome, and once we got to know each other, it was a lot of fun. There was always something crazy going on in someone’s room, kind of like having a big slumber party every night.

It depends on where off campus you want to live. Most off-campus housing is pretty convenient because they have an Athens transit line that runs all over town. You just have to know which bus goes where. There is housing off campus that is within walking distance to campus, but it all depends on how much money you want to pay for rent.
