The school spirit at U of I, especially for football, is great. During a football game, you see a lot of students painted up or dressed up and ready to cheer on the school's team. There is a lesser show of school spirit for other sports like basketball, swimming, and soccer, though. Overall, there is nothing spectacular about the sports program at the University, and the teams could be better at their sports. However, the sports programs do give excellent scholarships, and most of them have good coaches, too.
There are very good athletic amenities at the Kibbie Dome, which is the sports center on campus, and there is a conducive environment for athletes to train and thrive on campus, as well. In addition to varsity teams, there are also intramural clubs for sports like soccer, and they have games with opponents on campus or they often visit other schools to compete.
