It's pretty much standard mid-west weather.

There is a mall in town and also a few well known stores.

I have yet to live off campus, so I can really give a review on this section.

I'd say that the local atmosphere of Springfield, IL is pretty awesome. There are plenty of Abraham Lincoln museums to go to. We have the capital building as well as all of the other aspects of government. The shopping is ok, but compared to the small town I came from, it's a lot more diverse. Springfield is just a beautiful city with a lot of cultural diversity.

It rains a lot. The Illinois climate makes the weather unpredictable. One minute it will be blazing hot, and the next, it will be 50 degrees. It rains a lot in the fall, and that season just sort of gets pushed under the rug. Because of all the rain, it makes going to class more difficult because it's so gloomy outside. And nobody really wants to walk to class in the rain.

When I applied for financial aid, I didn't really get anything, so I had to find scholarships to help out with the cost. Luckily my school offers transfer merit scholarships and institutional scholarships, but it was still a headache to get all the forms filled out and the essays written.

The campus at my school is extremely small, and I don't live on campus, so I don't really have any exciting experiences at school because I'm only there for classes. I probably would still choose my school, but I would choose to live on campus.

There are a lot of dining options in the Springfield area. While most of them are fast-food options, there is a lot of variety among them. And obviously that makes the cost incredibly affordable. I would have to say that the best places to check out are Smokey Bones and D'Arcy's Pint.

Party life here sucks unless you're 21.

I'm used to big city living. This is a downgrade.

The computers on campus are great and convenient.

Student life is a good, fun experience. UIS offers a variety of events around the campus, including music events. They offer a fully equipped gym which is free for students and even offer classes in certain types of workouts. Their library is very aesthetically nice, roomy, and can be a very helpful resource for students when doing research, or just for providing a quiet place to study.

Parking passes for the year are about $60, but there are usually plenty of open spots.
College Freshman 2013-08-12T19:26:59Z
UIS has a well-made gym and several sports fields. They have several different sports teams and the sports side of the school is highly prevalent.

Everything you need can be found near campus, but there are not a lot of fun things to do outside of campus.

Drug use at UIS? I dont think that I can say that its not done I mean its a college campus people drink and party but I dont think its a big problem. I have never been peer pressured and feel pretty safe when I think about this topic.
College Senior 2013-07-29T15:54:54Z
I have never heard of the school helping people find off campus housing.
College Senior 2013-07-29T15:53:38Z
Computers at the UIS can be a little slow but when I have used them I have not had a huge problem with them.
College Senior 2013-07-29T15:52:10Z
Ive never really had a problem with campus housing. I have a lot of friends that have had problems with it though. I think organization is a must for them.
College Senior 2013-07-29T15:51:17Z
I think campus parking is great. I live in the townhouses and always find parking. I dont really use my car to get around campus I use it to get to work and back home.
College Sophomore 2013-07-02T00:47:01Z
UIS is very culturally diverse campus and it's small size allows you to experience it's diversity in a more personal involved way especially living on campus.
College Sophomore 2013-07-02T00:34:37Z
UIS at Springfield has a welcoming atmosphere due to its small campus size and close student/staff relations. Despite its lack of consistent public transportation traveling to and from local activities and area attractions off campus UIS provides a heartwarming community of people that allows you to have fun on campus.though a variety of weekly events.
