The Career Center on Wright Street is essential. Even if you are uncertain about your major or goals, the people at the Career Center can give you tests and books to help you find out what you want to do. There is nothing wrong with being undecided, but eventually you are going to have to make some firm goals, and the Career Center is there to help you do just that. Talk to professors that are teaching in your field. See what advice they can offer and what decisions they made. Also, almost every major has an information night, so pick a few that interest you and check them out. Be sure to check out www.pb.uillinois.edu, the fantastically detailed University Office for Planning & Budgeting Web page reports. Click on “Custom Reports,” “Department,” “Urbana,” and then select a department or concentration from the drop-down menu. From here, you can access detailed statistics about all reporting graduates’ salaries, job satisfaction, and much more. The Career Center also offers access to a number of local and international job search methods, all of which are available through www.careercenter.uiuc.edu.
