Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Transportation around campus is pretty accessible. The MTD buses run all over campus, including downtown Urbana. They run regularly to the Quad and the main part of town, so you never have to wait for a ride. This is great if you are out late at night and are worried about returning to the dorms safely. As one student said, understand that the bus that will be coming in the next five minutes might not necessarily be the bus you need. However, if you are trying to make it to a distant location, you might have a wait, but usually no more than 15 or 20 minutes. Walking and biking are also good options, and if the weather is nice, most people don’t mind burning off a few calories while going to class.

As for leaving town, the Suburban Express and Greyhound are great options. If you want to go home for a weekend or up to Chicago for a night or two, both are inexpensive and accessible means of transportation. Of course, it is nice to have your own car, or to at least to share a ride with friends, since this gives you more control and freedom. It's not a necessity, though, because the transportation around here is A-OK. But to make it better than A-OK, hop on the bus as early as possible in your college career and familiarize yourself with the routes and the schedules.

Buses Are Amazing

As a UIUC student, buses are included in fees. They go everywhere on and around campus, including the mall and train terminal.

Kiss N' Ride

Using the University transportation is probably the easiest way of getting around, Urbana-Champaign is like its own mini metropolitan area and if you don't want to take the bus, walking or riding a bike are just as convenient.

Buses Are a Necissity

You have to take the bus to places on campus or walk because there aren't that many places to park a car.
