College Prowler Take
Transportation around campus is pretty accessible. The MTD buses run all over campus, including downtown Urbana. They run regularly to the Quad and the main part of town, so you never have to wait for a ride. This is great if you are out late at night and are worried about returning to the dorms safely. As one student said, understand that the bus that will be coming in the next five minutes might not necessarily be the bus you need. However, if you are trying to make it to a distant location, you might have a wait, but usually no more than 15 or 20 minutes. Walking and biking are also good options, and if the weather is nice, most people don’t mind burning off a few calories while going to class.
As for leaving town, the Suburban Express and Greyhound are great options. If you want to go home for a weekend or up to Chicago for a night or two, both are inexpensive and accessible means of transportation. Of course, it is nice to have your own car, or to at least to share a ride with friends, since this gives you more control and freedom. It's not a necessity, though, because the transportation around here is A-OK. But to make it better than A-OK, hop on the bus as early as possible in your college career and familiarize yourself with the routes and the schedules.

Every student has a bus pass and the buses run about five minutes apart. The #22 runs through the most central part of campus. It goes to the Union, the Six-Pack, both of the exercise facilities, and stops no more than a block away from every bar. The buses run from 7 a.m. to 3 a.m. |

The buses get people home safely at night and get them to class on time in the morning; it really is quite an impressive system. The earlier you tackle it, the less likely that it will get the better of you. |

The buses seem great to me. I try not to make riding the bus seem too complicated though, because the routes can really be confusing for an LAS major like myself. I know how to get to class and home. Anything else is just showing off. |
