College Prowler Take
The weather in Illinois is a consistent source of conversation and complaints. Not only is it freezing cold in winter and hellishly hot in summer, it is completely unpredictable in between. You may leave the house in a sweatshirt and coat in February, only to find that it is 60 degrees outside. Or maybe you leave the house in April in a tank top, only to be surprised by a sudden snowfall. Basically, if you’re not from the area or are not familiar with Midwest weather, you are definitely in for a few surprises.
The only thing you can do is be prepared. It is definitely suggested that you bring an umbrella and snow gear, because Illinois is also home to a lot of snow and rain. You will experience some of the most bitterly windy and cold days here imaginable, where walking out the door for class is like being slapped in the face. Nothing sucks more than walking to class in three inches of snow and ice, but it is a reality that Illinois students have to face, so be warned. If you are not going to be able to make yourself go to class if it is below 32 degrees, then you might want to rethink coming to school here.

You need every kind of clothing. And you should really try to get a dorm with A/C. And FYI, the dorms start turning the heat on in October, even though it could still be 60 degrees outside. |

The weather really shocked me. I was not prepared for it to be so cold and wet in the winter. I was often going to class in sandals and a tank, only to find myself walking home in the snow! |
