The majority of students at the University of Kansas only have positive things to say about the college. Students have the opportunity to get a quality education at a fairly cheap price, which is something that not a lot of schools can boast. The community around Lawrence offers all of the important features of a great college town. There is entertainment, nightlife, and fine dining seemingly around every corner. You’ll have no problem finding everything you’ll need for four years of good living. Aside from some minor complaints, it’s safe to say that many students would be in favor of spending four more years at KU. The combination of receiving a quality education and experiencing the freedom and exhiliration of college life makes students feel happy, and more importantly, at home at KU. The University also has a long-standing tradition that dates back to the 1860s, which makes you feel like you’re a part of something bigger than just your own educational advancement. Lawrence is a tight-knit community, and you’ll experience many Midwestern personalities on a daily basis, which can have its good and bad sides. Outside of Kansas, most people do not realize that KU is a great univeristy in a great college town. You will leave here a better person than when you came in—and you’ll have so many people to thank for it. Filter:

Parking & Security
F
It is near impossible to park on the Lawrence Campus. Even when a parking permit is obtained, rather than checking their database to verify the fact or ticket you, they will IMMEDIATELY TOW YOUR CAR. Their administrative staff may say one thing, but the parking patrol must get a commission or secret joy to make your life hell. When you believe said vehicle has been stolen since you had a parking permit, you can't get hold of security after 5pm. Jumping through hoops, stranded in 100+ degree weather, hitching rides from strangers to get to the lot they towed your car to was not something this experienced 50 year-old woman enjoyed and IS NOT something I would EVER want to subject my child to. Things have sure gone even more downhill since my son attended at the Lawrence campus. He always had horror stories to tell, but lived off-campus and rode the bus. In the end, he was not even proud enough of the school to attend his graduation.
Beyond the academics you can find at other quality schools, sports are the only thing they do well there.
Avoid Lawrence campus AT ALL COSTS. I thought leaving Edwards Campus - which is the complete opposite - for 1-2 classes in Lawrence would be no big deal. I was wrong. |

Edwards Campus Is Great
B
Edwards campus is a wonderfully welcoming facility with comfortable, well-lit meeting facilities, an accessible library, and a secure parking area.
Lawrence is not. |

Closed Down After 5Pm
D-
Whne my class dismissed at 5pm, I discovered my car was gone from the parking lot at Lawrence Campus. No numbers are posted outside for an emergency and after returning to the building and looking online, it was nearly impossible to locate a number to call. Locating a possible number in an obscure corner of a page, even then I had to go through numerous voice prompts. Perhaps this is why crime at KU has gone up dramatically the last couple years. |
