Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

For KU students, men’s basketball tickets are about as priceless as the Hope Diamond. With its rich tradition and success, the basketball team is a national powerhouse and closely followed and adored by life-long fans. KU is in the Big 12 Conference, which is one of the premier sports conferences in America, with rivals like Missouri, Kansas State, Oklahoma, and Texas. Basketball is also a popular intramural sport, and during the winter months, the Rec Center is buzzing with pick-up games.

Other sports on campus may not receive as much fanfare, but the football program is gaining in popularity. The team has a good coach, who has led the Jayhawks to win consecutive bowl games for the first time in KU history. KU has always been a basketball school, but it's now a football school, as well. Athletic director Lew Perkins is regarded as one of the finest in the U.S., which is a great sign for the future of other athletic teams at KU. Intramural sports are a big part of the University, as well. The highlight of winning an intramural championship is earning the coveted IM championship T-shirt.

No Clue

I don't know anything about sports, nor do I care to. I know that people at KU love sports and they have many different types if you do like sports.

Revolves Around Basketball

KU basketball players are worshiped like gods. People attend the games religiously. But, football.... Not so much. Out football team is not touted so highly. They've been a joke the past two seasons. Other sports... they receive a bit of attention. We have a good quidditch team too....

ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK!!

I love the school spirit at KU. We don't have a good football team but we still support them. Basketball is HUGE here. This year is a rebuilding year for us but we are still doing good. KU basketball is the best experience I have had. Allen Fieldhouse is the loudest college basketball stadium in the country. We are 7 in a row big 12 champs and James Naismith (inventor of bball) was our first coach. Enough said.

Most Popular Sports

KU has long been known as a basketball school, and people all around the state and country look to KU for its consistently good basketball team. KU is definitely becoming more of a football school, too. KU has recently won consecutive bowl games.

Most Overlooked Teams

Baseball, women’s basketball, and women’s swimming and diving teams are always exciting to watch, even though they don’t draw the biggest crowds.

School Spirit

School spirit is huge here. Students are very proud of the school, and you’ll see Jayhawk apparel all over campus. The Jayhawk tradition is strong, and if you run into KU grads at any point in your life, you’ll definitely have an instant bond to build off.

Getting Tickets

Many students buy the All-Sports Combination Package, which includes tickets for football and basketball tickets. But the package doesn’t guarantee you a spot in the crowd—basketball tickets must be picked up at a certain time before they’re sold out, otherwise it’s too late.

Best Place to Take a Walk

Clinton Park, South Park, Watson Park

Did You Know?

The KU Men’s Basketball team won the NCAA national championship in 2008.

In a five-year span, from 2003–08, the football team has made four bowl appearances, winning the last three: the Fort Worth Bowl, the FedEx Orange Bowl, and the Insight Bowl.
