Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Each dorm on campus has its own reputation. Templin is the smart dorm, Lewis is nice, Hashinger is the artsy dorm, Ellsworth is pretty average, McCollum is run-down, Oliver is the party dorm, and GSP and Corbin are for sorority girls. But these reputations don’t always prove to be true, and most students agree that the quality of dorm life has everything to do with the people surrounding them instead of the actual dorm. On-campus housing is a great place to meet new friends and establish lasting relationships that can last through and past your career at KU.

The University provides students with lots of different campus housing options. Students can choose their roommate or they can go “pot luck” and have the University pair them up with a roomie. Scholarship Halls are available to students based on academic excellence and economic need and can be a good choice for more serious students. Scholarship Hall residents usually live without the distractions of the freshman desire to party, which can envelope some of the other dorms. Whatever the experience turns out to be, dorm life is something most students never forget.

Okay

I have visited many colleges throught the program Kauffman Scholars and have visited the campus on other occassions prior. I would rate the dorms as okay because they serve their purpose but are not, to say, state of the art praise worthy.

Mccollum Hall Is the BEST

I lived in McCollum hall my freshman year and plan to live there again my sophomore year. The hall is the most diverse which is why its called the International Hall and you really get to know people of different backgrounds. This is great for people interested in International or Foreign Language Studies like myself. The people are also very friendly.

Convenience

At the University of Kansas you have two choices of which side of campus to live on. You can live on one side at Daisy Hill, which house most of the dorm. Its very close to allen field house. Or you can live in GSP or Corbin (All girl dorm) on the other side of campus by the football stadium. Daisy hill is way closer but GSP/Corbin have a reliable bus system, and even if you miss the bus it is only a ten mile walk. Corbin is the sorority girl dorm. Every girl in a sorority lives there their freshman year. Food is about the same. Daisy hill has Ms. E's, the largest food service on campus, with a lot of variety. Corbin/GSP shared a food place located in GSP. It is currently being renovated but will be open in the fall of 2012. It is said to be high tech and custom meals to order. Either way you can not go wrong, depends what you like. But remember whatever eating plan you get, I will work at any of the eating locations. Meaning you can live in Corbin but still go eat a Ms. E's
