Students involved in underage drinking have a pretty high chance of receiving a minor in possession (MIP) ticket. DUI and MIP tickets have expensive fines that affect more than just a student’s wallet. Fake IDs are prevalent among KU students, which, if caught with one, can carry charges. If you’re caught drinking underage, you’ll get an MIP ticket, but if you’re also caught with a fake ID, you’ll get a bigger ticket. On a positive note, if you’re 21 or older, campus strictness is hardly a problem at all. As long as you’re not driving or out of control, no one will bother you if you’re of-age. On occasion, police set up drinking checkpoints on the streets to check for drunk drivers, and the police and the ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control) also randomly go inside bars to look for underage drinking. When the police break up a house party, usually they simply tell everybody to head home and do not administer breathalyzers. In comparison to other rowdy campuses, KU police are somewhat reasonable. They seem to understand that “college is college” and just want the students to be safe and responsible when drinking.
In terms of offenses other than drinking, KU police are fairly understanding, but they will bust you if you get out of control. Sometimes, students will do things like pull the fire alarm or steal stuff, just for kicks. Campus police really don’t like to deal with stuff like that, and can be pretty strict about it if they figure out who is to blame. Basically, they are only strict about things that annoy other people or are potentially dangerous.

Maintain a Safe and Fair Environment for the Students
The strictness makes campus safe but it is also still fun hanging out on campus because the rules and regulations and what people expect from the students is fair.

Not Really Strict
I have found no rules in particular that can affect me or students in our academics or social lives, except maybe the no skateboarding rule. Then again, how many people skateboard?
