Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Most people aren’t surprised to hear the majority of the student population is white, but this doesn’t mean that KU lacks in diversity. Compared to other colleges in the Midwest and especially other colleges in Kansas, KU is as diverse as it gets. It doesn’t have the typical conservative feel that other Kansas colleges have, and it’s often considered a safe-haven for members of different ethnicities or sexual orientations.

Students from more than 110 countries around the world call KU home at some point during their college career. With so many foreign students, there’s always someone or something new around the corner. KU also boasts one of the highest study abroad rates of any public university in the nation, which shows that KU students are interested in knowing how people live in other parts of the world. Students agree that KU has a unique feel, and it’s often considered an oasis of diversity in the middle of the state of Kansas. The administration is pushing to increase enrollment rates of minorities at the University to make the numbers show it’s as diverse as many students feel it is.

Diversity!

One of the reasons I picked KU was because it was diverse. There are many different types of races, religions, interests, and majors. Every person you meet is different in some way.

Not Too Many Minorities

In all of the visits to KU before I enrolled there the people always said that KU was extremely diverse and I believe that they aimed this statement for the white kids. Coming from the city, my high school was EXTREMELY diverse, white people were the minority. The information given about KU was very misleading for me because I do not see many people who look like me or who I can share cultural similarities with. If you're looking for true diversity, I wouldn't suggest KU.

A Wide Variety of People

The university has a wide variety of race. I believe the ratio is very well evened out with the international exchange students being a bit higher percentage. They all get along very well.
