Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Students appreciate the unique experience that comes with living in Lawrence. It’s definitely a college town but also has much more to offer. It’s close to Kansas City, providing a nearby big city option if Lawrence starts to feel too small. Lawrencians are very proud of the locally owned shops and restaurants on Massachusetts Street downtown. Lawrence is different from other cities in Kansas because of its more liberal, free-spirited feel.

While college students are a big part of Lawrence, family life is visible, as well. Lawrence has been a strong city since before the Civil War, so it has deep roots that attract more than just youthful students. Its history can be seen in the old-fashioned shops and buildings, but there is also a mix of more modern stores like the Gap and American Eagle. It has recently become a trend for retirees to return to their beloved college town to spend their retirement in its relaxed atmosphere. Students often say life in Lawrence is a part of what makes their experience at KU great.

Lawrence, Kansas - the Classic College Town

Lawrence, Kansas is a beautiful town, not to big, and not to small. There is so much to do every night of the week, and the people around are so friendly. I feel comfortable and safe everywhere I go, and never feel like I do not belong. Lawrence is my home away from home, and it is the classic college town.

Very Eccentric

Lawrence is one of those towns that surprise people. It has a vast amount of different types of people. The University of Kansas has a great deal to do with why Lawrence is filled with an amazing amount of uniqueness. Downtown Lawrence is where all the fun happens, great restaurants, locally owned businesses and a very accepting atmosphere. I've lived in Lawrence my whole life and have never become bored!

LOVE KU!

The people here are pretty laidback and almost everyone wears something with KU on it..this is a really awesome place with UNMATCHED school pride! I have visited several universities across the country and there is nothing close to being a Kansas Jayhawk..Once you are a Jayhawk then you become like family to everyone. Also,Lawrence is one of the best college towns and on a basketball night all the TV sets in town are turned to the game(if you're not already at it). Seriously, you cant find a more awesome school in america in terms of both social life, school pride and academics. (our debate team has five national championships). When you come here check out the local pizza places and the nightlife on mass street! Seriously, this place is like no other, KU won the title in 08 and Mass street went wild, the people are so passionate about basketball that its something very special.
