Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Nightlife is a big part of the college experience, and KU offers many options for students. Bars are abundant in Lawrence, and students enjoy heading out during the week or on the weekend to take advantage of some downtime. Students usually head to Massachusetts Street because many of the popular bars are within walking distance of one another. The under-21 crowd can experience house parties that are easy to find within the neighborhoods around campus.

The mentality for parties depends on your age or Greek affiliation. As a freshman living in the dorms, the best choice would be the house party scene, and there are usually parties at houses in close proximity to the dorms. House parties are normally not too complicated—students usually pay for a cup and drink beer from a keg. After students turn 21, they usually hit up the bars, which is a huge part of the social scene at KU. Some hotspots are the Hawk, Brother’s, Quinton’s, the Jazzhaus, and Abe and Jake’s. These are all on or around Mass Street, which is home to most of the nightlife in Lawrence. Whatever you’re looking for, the choices are pretty endless in Lawrence.

Good Times

I have found that there is a very lively nightlife in Lawrence. It is always a good time to hop on safe bus from the dorms and see where the night takes you. If you are 21 there are the mass street bars and when there are good deals people will be there. The Granada has a lot of shows come through it too. overall, if you look for fun you will find it.

Safebus Is Your Key to Friday/Saturday Nights

I love SafeBus. Not only because it's extremely convenient, but because you can hop on a SafeBus and easily find a party. Just follow the crowd. SafeBus is a lot of fun and half the people riding are already drunk.

It's not hard to find a house party where you can get a drink if you're underage. Most parties charge $5 for a cup.

When it comes to clubs, I recommend Abe & Jake's and Wilde's Chateau. A&J is more popular with students but Chateau attracts a more exciting crowd.

KU Nightlife

Unless you are 21+, there are not many options for an exciting nightlife unless you attend a house party. Many of the bars on Mass St (downtown of Lawrence, KS) are 21+. There is only one popular 18 and older club.
