Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

As most large state schools go, students can feel a bit overwhelmed by the undergraduate class sizes during their first few semesters at the University of Kentucky. It may be a bit intimidating to be in a class with 200 or more people, and it’s very tempting to not attend every lecture if attendance is not taken. Although some teaching assistants are foreign and hard to understand, every school has TAs that are foreign and hard to understand. Those Freshman 101 classes may seem trivial and pesky, but every school has them and Kentucky is no exception. In the end, once you get into the swing of things, you’ll be happier that you went to even the largest, most seemingly insignificant class. With a little self-discipline and dedication, students can make it past those enormous first-year classes and onto smaller, more personalized ones.

Getting to know your professors can be a very wise decision to set yourself apart in large introductory classes. It can also be helpful to team up with other students in large classes and form study groups to help everyone keep up with the courseload. Chances are, if you’re confused, someone in the group can help clear things up and you can do the same for another student. Not to mention, it is absolutely necessary to know at least a few people in class, just in case you miss the lecture and need to borrow notes or find out what was discussed. The University of Kentucky can seem like a large place until you make friends, and getting to know professors might seem like a task, but it’s one well worth the effort. It’s all about carving a comfortable place for yourself.

Not Exactly What I Expected

I figured all of my professors would be top notch but that was not the case. I've had professors that taught like it was their first time ever teaching. Some professors were better than others thoguh. And all of them are available with office hours. The campus is nice though and so is the environment.

Amazing Goal

With so many majors to choose from, this place is just a melting pot of academia. UK also has a really nice goal in mind, which is to become one of the top 20 research institutions. Classes might be hard to find here and there but much like applying to college you have to start early. besides a few flaws, with the library, reputation, and friendly staff and campus you should defiantly check this place out.
