Don’t be surprised when, halfway through your freshman year, you have already become too wide for your twin extra-long dorm bed. Beware of the Freshman 15! Kentucky offers a variety of food that has the ability to more than double your size if you aren’t careful. Most students seem to feel that it is overpriced because of the convenience, and nobody seems satisfied with the campus dining plan for the Wildcat Card. However, a great way to balance it out is by investing in the Plus Account. This nifty little addition allows you to spend money like a debit card when your meal plan just isn’t quite cutting it.

There are great places on campus to get a cup of coffee and slice of cheesecake for late-night studying. Watch out for those late-night munchies! UK offers a fantastic array of pastries, coffees, and sweets for snacking on. They’re so convenient and delicious you barely notice just how much you’re eating until you can’t wear anything but sweatpants! If you live on central campus, definitely plan on spending some time in the legendary K-Lair Grill. You might also want to spend some time working out afterward, though, to keep from getting too pudgy.

A Little, Not a Lot

Not much variety, and the atmosphere isn't great. Not a whole lot to report at UK. Luckily there are several great places very close by, like Pazzo's, Tin Roof, etc)

Good Variety...But a Little Greasy

There are a variety of places but a lot of the places to eat aren't very healthy. There are a lot of choices but when you are trying to eat healthy the options get a lot slimmer

The food on campus is sometimes very poorly made. Today I ate at K-lair and ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with pepper jack cheese. The cheese still had the deli paper on it when I bit into it.

  • The University of Kentucky offers a unique dining upscale luncheon experience in the Lemon Twist Deli. This is a partnership between students, faculty, and dining services that offers students the ability to plan the menus, serve as waitstaff, and prepare the food. The Lemon Twist is open on Tuesdays, and reservations are required. For reservations, call (859) 257-2878.
  • There are many picturesque spots to picnic on campus. Students can be seen enjoying a meal on blankets around campus in the fall and spring.
  • Several of the dorms have kitchens in the basement of buildings that offer students the option to cook.
