It would be almost impossible to get through four years at UK, or any other college for that matter, without your own personal computer. With wireless services, it’s easy to take your laptop anywhere you want or need. But if that isn’t an option for you, don’t panic. It just means you’ll have to walk to the William T. Young Library to use one of its many computers. Luckily, after a school forum on the subject, the library is now open 24 hours during week days and during the days on the weekend. You wouldn’t think anyone would be there at 4 a.m. on a Tuesday, but you’d be surprised.
Students living in on-campus dorms are notorious for spending hours at a time chatting online with friends. Be prepared to message your next door neighbor in the dorms instead of just walking two feet down the hall. You’ll be able to find plenty of places on campus to use whatever sort of computer you prefer—both Mac and Windows compatible. You can even check your e-mail over some coffee at one of the campus Starbucks. Perhaps the greatest computer feature Kentucky offers is the wireless Internet. How lovely to do research on the Internet while sitting on some Kentucky bluegrass underneath a sprawling tree!
