Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Lexington is a town rich in the history of horse racing and the Old South. Many historic homes and tourism opportunities present great weekend trips out into the country. Horse races allow for a reason to get dressed-up and spend a day at the track. As home to several other universities, Lexington also provides various other colleges for students to mingle with. Lexington is a fairly traditional city with down-home values and the mentality of a much smaller town.

Possibly the best part of Lexington is that it is so close to Cincinnati, Louisville, and several state parks. Students get the best of both worlds—city living and enough outdoor adventures allow students to get away from the exhaust of cars and stress of schoolwork. If you choose to stay in town on the weekends, prepare to be alone as many students live close enough to the University to go home every weekend. Most are friendly enough, though, that they might just offer to take you home to meet their family. How’s that for Southern hospitality?

Pretty, but Not Much for Under 21

Lexington offers a fair amount of pretty scenery and a nice shopping mall to visit when you're not in class, but if you're under twenty-one, forget night life. All of the "bar and grill" style restaurants card and will not allow even those with no intention of drinking to enter unless they are of age.

Lexington Is a True College Town!

UK is definitely the backbone of Lexington; however, it is not the sole source of strength...and I love that! Some towns would not survive without the local college, and Lexington would! But UK absolutely provides many resources to the community that raise Lexington to a new set of standards. The city is safe, clean, and fairly easy to maneuver through. I love it here!

The Million Dollar Question

When people in general think about the state of Kentucky, they only assume that we wear no shoes, everybody lives on a farm, and for games all we do is chase the chicken that walks in the yard. But what people fail to realize is that Kentucky is more than just country side and chickens roaming in people's yards. Lexington, the second largest city is one of the most popular tourist places within the state. Home of the University of Kentucky, Lexington offers a wide range of activties and entertainment. Such as the Faytte Mall which is the largest mall in the central area of Kentucky. There are at least four to five museums full of rich history along with historic houses; located downtown area. For families that want to have fun, Lexington offers a wide range of parks; from horses to feeding ducks. As for night owls there are bars and restaurants that attract both locals and out of towners. As for sports, Lexingtonians and students are crazy about basketball. Wherever you go or where you are, there is no doubt that there is a game tuned in on the television or on the radio. Quickly folks who are around here during basketball season are converted to Big Blue fans. Last point and I'm finished. The last thing on the list is campus life. Constantly there is something to do on or around campus. Even though the enivornment is huge, the atmosphere is full of life and quite relaxing. I never been to a college or a university that is so warming like UK. You meet different people with diverse backgrounds, it's amazing. I would definitely recommend for an senior in high school to apply at UK.... There's so much to do and the academic programs are diverse.
