21 Awesome

If you are 21 the nightlife is amazing in the clubs and the bars. However if you are just 18 then go to house parties which are still just as amazing.

Melting Pot

There is a large diversity of races and religions at UK. It is very interesting learning about different customs, beliefs and norms of behavior of all walks of people...at times its a little scary, but I'm getting more comfortable with it.

Greek Life Rules

As a member of a sorority, I tend to feel that most of the parties thrown are fraternity parties. If you're a girl, that's no problem. If you're a guy, you're way out of luck. State Street (along with University and Waller) tend to be the party streets. Bike cops roll through there in the summer pretty frequently. I've never had a night that wasn't fun but it could get a little sketchy if you're a GDI.

Big Blue Nation

There's not one sports fan out there that doesn't know about the University of Kentucky. Not only do we have the #1 ranked basketball team, but the fans for UK sports top all others. While basketball is a major focus, all the other sports get their highlight as well. There are numerous posters all over campus advertising events from swimming to gymnastics to soccer matches.

Home Away from Home

I love living on campus. It's very convenient because I am close to all my classes and practically right next to the library. It makes getting around way easier than if I were to live off campus. It's also convenient because if I need to quickly run to a classroom or office building, I don't have to worry about driving or catching a bus there because I'm already on campus.

The Amazing Library

If there is one reason to at least come visit UK, it is the William T. Young Library. People practically live there. It is the most amazing place to study and it's completely breathtaking. That and we are the freaking Wildcats. We are amazing at basketball and we party so hard for football that we don't care that our team is cursed.

It's What You Make It

I have a wonderful time, and anyone who tries to make themselves happy can as well. If you want to party every night, you can definitely find one every night. If you want to study all the time, you won't be alone. People here work hard and play a little harder. You just have to find a group to roll with.

UK Alert & SAFECATS

One of the biggest safety perks of attending the University of Kentucky is the UK Alerts system. It's a system that you sign up for to receive crime alerts, special security measures, weather warnings, etc. You can have it set up to send you emails, phone calls, and/or text messages. Another program we have is the SAFECATS programs -- a transportation service designed for students who need to get across campus at night. You just simply call the number, and members of the ROTC program come and escort you on-feet or by golf cart.

Great Programs

The College of Engineering at the University of Kentucky is hard and intense, but you get out of it what you put into it. First day of classes in Calculus, the professor handed out the syllabus and proceeded to go over the first five chapters! It's hard, I won't lie, but being a Junior this year, I look forward to doing the experiments I've heard of: designing a hearing aid, building a model electric car, building a digital display for an analog thermostat, designing small processors, and writing more programs for computers.

Best Educational Experience Ever

Even my worst teachers have been available for help when I ask for it at University of Kentucky. Their reputation is definitely just that, and any student who tries hard can achieve good grades. The teachers really care about their students and want them to succeed, and they've taught me a whole lot.

Basketball All the Time

Most UK students only care about the basketball team. Football games have a lot of fans, but basketball is by far the most popular. I think other sports, like volleyball, are overlooked by the student body and the fans.

Many Transportation Options

You can buy one of several parking passes on campus, most lots are free to ANY pass after 3:30pm and free all day on weekends. Besides parking on campus, LexTran partners with UK and there are public buses and UK buses running every 10-15 every where on campus to many areas in the city.

Always Something to Do

As cliche as that title is, it's true. Many of UK's students come from small Kentucky towns, and are pleasantly surprised to see how active Lexington becomes on the weekends. There is a never-ending supply of restaurants and bars to visit, with cuisine brought in from all over the world.

Within a 15 minute walk of campus is all of downtown Lexington, with boutiques, the historic Kentucky Theatre, and the Lexington Center, home of Rupp Arena and the UK Men's Basketball Team. Go Cats!

Two months a year, April and October, the thoroughbred horse racing track, Keeneland, is open for business. Keeneland also holds two "College Days" (one in April, one in October), and it's highly recommended to check out the ponies before graduation. Near this famous racetrack is the Kentucky Horse Park, home of the American Saddlebred Museum and acres of beautiful bluegrass. The Kentucky Horse Park was also home to the 2010 Alltech World Equestrian Games, which brought horses and athletes from all over the world to Lexington.

Just Don't Be and Idiot

After a string of robberies on campus in the middle of the night, the police are more concerned with safety rather than underage drinking. Of course police bust parties, but rarely does anyone get anything worse than a fine. As always, be safe and don't be stupid. Golden rules of college.

Bleed Blue

UK has one of the best Pharmacy schools in the nation. Kentucky has that southern hospitality and people are always friendly with you. Going to Keenland in the Fall and Spring is always a good time. Everyone gets dressed up to go watch the horse races. Fall is awesome time because of football season and tailgating. Remember to always dress up for the football games. We always look classy; both guys and girls. The campus literally bleeds blue during the winter time because we have the winningest program in college basketball history!! How many schools can say that?! The location of the campus is also great. If feels like you're on a small campus even though it's in the heart of lexington. If you can't find anything going on on campus, downtown is short walk especially if you live on North Campus.

Parking Is Terrible

At the University of Kentucky parking is terrible. Because the campus is in the middle of the city of Lexington there is not much room for parking. The lot that most students park in is far from everything and is very expensive.
