Did You Know?
  • A monumental ice storm knocked out power to many Lexington neighborhoods in 2003 and caused classes to be cancelled for a week. Students still share pictures and discuss the horrors of being without power and lectures for so long (right).
  • A popular saying among students is "If you don't like the weather, wait five minues!" Things can change from the time you enter a class to the time you leave. Be prepared!

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Plan on bringing clothes for four distinct seasons of weather and a lot of rain. Every few years, a horrible ice storm hits Lexington and knocks out power and cancels classes. Short of a natural disaster, classes will be in session. Be prepared for unpredictable weather and keep an umbrella handy.

Be careful walking past Patterson Office Tower if you are carrying papers or an umbrella, because the building creates a wind tunnel that could rip your clothes off. Be sure your backpack is waterproof and get some good rain boots for the spring showers that come every year.

Local Weather Affect Experience

The weather does not affect the campus experience too much because all the buildings are within 10-15 minutes of less to each other, therefore if it is raining you do not have to worry about getting too wet. The campus looks amazing in the spring time when it is sunny and they have planted flowers everywhere.

Wind Tunnel

The way the buildings are laid out, UK is a virtual wind tunnel. This is problematic in the cold winter and the rainy springs.
