UMFK is known for its reputable nursing program. It is a hard workload but the advisers and professors are accessible if you need help and guidance and the classes are small so you get more one on one attention.

We have snow 5 months out of the academic year. The roads are well plowed and the campus is well taken care of in order to get to classes.

This is a rural university so finding housing near the campus is difficult. You have to travel quit a ways to and from classes if you live off campus.

I chose UMFK because they are known for there exceptional nursing program. The classes are small and you get to know your professors on a personal level. The workload is hard and demanding but well worth the education I am receiving.

Health & Safety:
This a very small school. It is not a big campus to walk around and usually you are with a group going to classes or events. I have not felt like my safety has been an issue.

Hard to park close to the school when classes are going on but who cares its a small college

Nice small town easy to get around and meet people and enjoy college life.

The school has great knowledgeable professors, a good curriculum, the workload is reasonable. There are plenty of options for areas of study. The registration process could improve, in my opinion. Meeting with advisers could be better and more staff should be more well-rounded in knowledge about certain things to make registration an easier process.

We have a very diverse campus and everyone seems to be extremely accepting of everyone. It is a great learning opportunity to learn from other students about different cultures.

The gym and library are great resources for students. The Bengal's Lair is probably the most popular school hang out which is great for socialization.

I enjoy the small class sizes that allow more 1-1.

The format online is convenient. I can access my class on Black Board at all hours.
The online nursing classes are working for me. I can e-mail an instructor, and they get back to me promptly. The grading is fair, and the other students are able to discuss issues with the rest of the class through Black Board.

Cancelled classes are announced on local tv and radio. The Center is located in a mall with plenty of parking and roads are plowed. No problems

Health & Safety:
I am not on the campus, but Ellsworth has a small facility. It is very safe here.
College Sophomore 2013-03-08T19:23:42Z
I have never been on campus, but the Ellsworth center is easily accessed and friendly.
College Sophomore 2013-03-08T19:22:26Z
The computers at the Ellsworth Center where I attend the online UMFK classes are over 10 years old. They are easily accessed, and I usually have no wait time. I bring my own computer and access the wireless online service. I am very happy with the set-up here. I do not attend classes in Fort Kent, for I take all my classes with them online. I do take classes offered in Ellsworth that are transferred to my degree at Fork Kent.

There are three restaurants in town, two of which are expensive, and the other is chinese food. There is a Subway and Mcdonalds as well, but those get old after awhile.
College Junior 2013-01-05T02:27:27Z
Food is actually pretty good in my opinion. You only have two choices: Nowland Hall (free with meal plan) and Bengals Lair (not free). But food from either is generally good.

Student life is great if you know how to interact with people.

UMFK is a school that has ALOT of potential, but it seems there is a lack of initiative to make it as best as it can be. Being in northern Maine, people who love the outdoors and small-town life will feel right at home. Since your pretty far from the nearest city (and recreational opportunities), you learn to have fun with limited resources you have. I am from southern Maine and I can honestly say I have more fun in Fort Kent, Maine, which I never thought id say 2yrs ago. The people i have met while attending is a big factor in why i stayed. The student activities are ok but could be better and more fun (I work full time as well as school so i do not participate to much). But, I believe a good 80% of campus staff should have their employment reviewed. Sure, there are the good 20% of staff that you can rely on to give you straight answers. The financial aid office and business offices are the two offices you'll be visiting most throughout your educational career here, and those two offices are the hardest to deal with. The financial aid office will not give you answers to even the most basic questions and you would be lucky to have them even direct you to someone who knows the answer. I have had multiple times where ive been lied too. I would rather have hear a "I dont know, sorry, but i can direct you to someone who might" than a straight up lie. Both offices are honestly pretty rude. Ive had at least 3 occasions where I was lied to, and explained that they lied, and didnt even get a apology or anything. Like I said, there are some employees that are somewhat reliable, but I couldnt trust the majority of them. The thing that makes this all worse is that these offices are the ones that deal with your money and loans (something I would expect them to be careful with). I gave up on phone calls to these offices a long time ago due to the fact that they very rarely answer or call back This college would be SO much better if it just had better communication skills. A month-delayed refund check (for loan money for books, etc.) may not be a big deal for those who has mommy and daddy pay college for them, but for the rest of us, its a big deal. I really feel that if UMFK simply improved their communication to students and had all staff say "sorry, that was our fault, let me try to assist you" once in awhile, things would be a lot better. I am not sure about other majors, but in the Public Safety Administration, most of my "required classes" are ONLY available online. This is a huge let down for me because I learn so much better in a dedicated classroom setting. It wouldnt be so bad having a couple required classes online, but when the MAJORITY of required classes are online, it really does hinder the learning process. Another thing that is annoying is that on UMFK website, there are 3 (that i know off) different majors that have the exact same descriptions; literally copy and pasted, which made it very difficult for me to figure out what degree i wanted. Its careless stuff like that could easily be fixed that brings down the overall integrity of the school. If they cant even take the time to consider basic things like that, what else has questionable integrity. To sum it all up, the people and the location make this school as good as it is, not the "unique opportunities", academic programs, etc. It wouldnt take much work to improve UMFK to make it great, there just seems like theres no initiative....which is a real shame.

Apartments are available all over town. Prices range from 300-800

UMFK has a great diversity of races on campus. The student activity's office makes sure to highlight each culture at different events.
College Senior 2012-11-21T15:34:03Z
With the new parking policy it is easier to find a spot but i do not find it right that students mainly commuters lost half of their parking spots to staff parking.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
