For all people going to school here you can get a parking permit for free. If you are the kind of person that can't do the same thing for weeks on end it would probably be a good idea to have a car on campus, but if you don't you can usually find a ride pretty easily.

The dorms were built a while ago, so they aren't set up with all of the new things. All of the walls are concrete, so wifi on campus isn't the best. Everybody is very nice and people on campus are very sociable.

At almost every game there is a descent student turnout to go see games. The teams themselves are pretty good. The athletic facilities are well maintained and are open for all people that are going to school here, and to people that aren't going to school here, but with a membership.

The weather during the Summer is really nice. It is usually sunny with temperatures in the 70's and 80's. During the fall the weather can get moody. The temperatures drop down to the low 60's and into the 50's. It is a great time of year for bonfires around the pond and the foliage is beautiful. During the winter, the chance of snow is very high. School is almost never cancelled. The Spring brings bright skies and warming temperatures.

Computers are always available at the University of Maine at Machias. Computers are always open as well as computer labs if they are not being used for a class. IT support is really great. They will help you get any help that you need. The WiFi usually works great. There are times when it can be spotty.

Guys & Girls:
Most relationships at the school are between athletes. The dress is typically casual with some more classy than others. There are definitely people who where pajamas at certain times of the day. Most of the social life consists of hanging out with friends in your room or hanging out in the lounges.
College Junior 2013-10-27T18:10:14Z
For a small town, Machias has a pretty good selection of restaurants. There is McDonalds for fast food as well as Dunkin Donuts and Subway. There are two family restaurants, The Bluebird and Helen's. These two restaurants have great homemade food. Machias also has a Chinese restaurants for variety. There's also a new restaurant called Skywalkers. Most of these restaurants are not open late.

The Greek life is very interesting. They are well known around campus for selling baked goods and throwing parties, but everyone I know who decided to join their brothers or sisters are very glad they did. It brings people together to create a new sense of friendship and family on what can be a scary new feeling of being at college. However, Machias isn't all about the Greek life. We have quite a few sororities and fraternities, but whether you're in or not it's not that big of a deal here. Everyone socializes and is friendly to Greek and non-Greek.

Unless you're 21 there isn't really too much going on. But sometimes the best parties are the ones that you make with your friends, your music choices, and your "party" style. The 2am trips to Denny's in the town over are some experiences you will never forget.

We have wonderful athletes and coaches who are a big part of the campus life. It can definitely be shown through the athletes team pride, cooperation, and performance that not only do the students enjoy what they do but also the coaches know what they are doing, and they do it well. There is a full gym accessible to all students, including (and recommended for) all athletes, and the community located on campus. There is no doubt that there will be fans cheering on all the Machias Clippers for whatever sport they may be participating in.

Guys & Girls:
Mostly you'll see people casually dressed, but there is a bit of diversity. Some people dress very fashionably while others are in pajamas. Everyone seems pretty laid back and friendly no matter what their style is.

I am a commuter student and I have never had a problem with the parking lot. It is right next to my classes and I can almost always find a spot. If I can't find a spot, I just park in the next parking lot over. It is a very short walk and there is a sidewalk.
College Junior 2013-06-10T22:02:36Z
I did not enjoy a lot of my experience at UMM. I was an out of state student, and I attended for two years. If it wasn't for my friends, I would not have survived at the school. UMM is located in a rather poor area, with absolutely nothing to do. Literally, there is nothing to do.
The people may seem friendly at first, however give it some time and you will see just how clicky everyone can be. Although, don't let this intimidate you, I'm sure it is like this at any small school.
The academics are easy. I found nothing challenging. Some of the professors are very intriguing though...a lot of the time I found class to be fun and worth attending. I just wish the professors were stricter, and actually put emphasis on helping the students succeed.
As for the dining, the food is like any other cafeteria food. It's not the best. I'd stock up on groceries if I were you.

The computers are okay, but they seem to break down quite often

The kids here are pretty nice, alot of downeast kids but nice.

The food is good to me, I was a commuter so I didn't eat there often but I heard it was good.

No Greek housing available. Greek life is there for parties and some other events, but it doesn't dominate. It's not a big deal if you are in a frat or sorority, and it is not a big deal if you never set foot in one. It's nice because you can go to frat parties, which can be fun, but it's not a status thing.

There are a few options. One bar, one Chinese Restaurant and couple diners. There are a couple nicer restaurants out of town a bit.

Machias is pretty secluded. Having your own car is key. The University is within walking distance to "down town". But if you'd like to go home on breaks, you can use your own car or use West's transportation, which is a small bus and can bring you to the airport. The nearest airport is in Bangor, about 2 1/2 hrs away from Machias. There really are some awesome scenic hikes around so having your own car will enable you to explore the area more freely.

I don't participate in most activities here. Other than class times, I am in my dorm because I don't like most of the people here, I have nothing in common with them.
College Sophomore 2013-03-07T17:43:42Z
In my opinion, 99% of the students at this school participate in drinking/drugs on a regular basis. It makes it very difficult for those that want to stay on the straight and narrow. I feel very out of place in this school.

Guys & Girls:
The guys and girls are mostly nice. Their is a lot of drama at this school because it is so small, but mostly between girl and girl. Most of the time you can get along with everyone. The school is split up into groups though. If you are not in t a clique or group it is sometimes hard to hit in.
College Junior 2013-02-25T21:21:51Z
The university offers a lot of majors and minors. Most of them are for recreational majors or science majors. They have great programs for all the majors and you can learn a lot if you apply yourself. They offer hands on classes for each major and teach you a lot about working in the major you want.
College Junior 2013-02-25T21:17:22Z
There are many spots, but they do fill up quickly. Their is 6 parking lots available and their is usually extra places. The parking outside of Dorward Hall are the only ones that are limited. Their is 3 spaces and are supposed to be for only 30 minutes at a time, but sometimes people park their all night. This makes it hard if you need to move stuff in or need a quick place to park.
College Junior 2013-02-25T21:13:27Z
Their is a fair amount of all races at this University. They provide all races to participate in all activities. They also do not judge on gender or sexual orientation and provide clubs and Greek organisations for all types of people. Everyone talks to everyone here and the social environment is terrific!
Sorry, there are no reviews.
