There are a lot of apartments around town, although there isn't any designated "student housing" apartments like I have seen in other college towns. The cost is very reasonable. I have had the same landlord for the past 3 years, and he is great- very trustworthy, he gets things fixed as soon as I tell him something is wrong, and his apartments are spacious and bright. I cannot vouch for other landlords and buildings in town.

If you are an outdoorsy person then this campus is great for you. The area is full of scenery and the nearby parks are great for hiking, walking, and skiing.

Health & Safety:
I have never felt unsafe on campus. All of the students are pleasant and there are always people around. Campus security is always around and the campus is small so they can get anywhere quickly.

There aren,t a whole lot of places to go out and party, but the town does offer charm and other things to do. Most things are walking distance away which is great.

The quality of food has declined. Only one dining hall. When I order a chicken burger it comes out tasting like old french fries. On the up side they added a stirrfry counter.

I wouldn't say the drug scene at UMPI is all that bad. People smoke marijuana on a regular basis, but nothing real hard like cocaine or meth. People drink, but that's nationwide, not just here. Yeah you'll get the few who spend their nights partying and are perpetually recovering the next morning, but the majority of students are here to get decent grades while still having a bit of fun.

If northern Maine has anything, it's places to get something to eat. Downtown Presque Isle is almost entirely comprised of restaurants. You can get food from pretty much any area of the world you want such as Mexican, Italian, Chinese, American, and anything else you could want. One plus is that the area isn't very big so things aren't more than a short walk away from campus.

I personally don't see any drugs. The kids I hang out with are there for academics and sports. They are probably there, I just don't see any.

Health & Safety:
The campus police are around all the time. It is a very safe campus.

Gentile hall is the best. It has an Olympic sized swimming pool, an overhead track, basketball court, rock climbing room, and a weight room.
The library is very efficient and quiet. There is always some activities going on somewhere on campus.

Professors Are Wonderful – When I went to the University for my tour of the campus, I was very impressed. The head of the Biology dept. chatted with us and told me that the professors were very student oriented. I now attend the University and found out just how accommodating they really are. I am playing two sports and my Biology professor has made many acceptations for me. He would come in the day before I was to leave with the team and have the lab ready for me. I was very impressed.

I know nothing about the Greek life here on campus.

I am in the Biology program and am very happy with the results I am getting.

Friendly and Helpful – The people there were extremely friendly and helpful.

There is transportation from the activities group on campus to various things but no real solid options for general transportation. basically if you dont have a car, you're gonna walk.

In the hall where i live (Park Hall), we have 2 RA's that are basically cop wanna be's and just try to control everything all the time. They don't care about the well being of the floor they just care about whats best for themselves and can definitely be overbearing sometimes, and honestly quite downgrading and rude. I think in the other residence halls though everything is fine and not too strict.

Home Style Food – There's always something new at UMPI, yet they always seem to have my favorites. There's not time to miss home-cooked food!

Depends on Where You Live – At Umpi, all the dorms are nice. But in my opinion Park is the best, with good sized rooms and Amazing RA's. It is like a family.

The social scene is great. We get together and have dances and play games outside. At the beginning of the year there is an orientation for new students to get to know one another.

The weather here is great for skiing. Not so good for baseball usually. The last two years have been great with no snow after March.
College Freshman 2010-04-08T15:28:52Z
There are students form across the country. Different races and sexual orientation. Everyone seems to get along.

School Life – I really like the school and the athletics are awesome. Once in Presque Isle it's great, but getting there seems to take forever from my house. It's a five hour drive.
College Freshman 2010-03-28T16:25:45Z
Parking is ok. It doesn't bother me because I hardly use my vehicle. It stays put. But there seems to be planty for faculty and off campus students
College Freshman 2010-03-28T16:24:22Z
The campus is very strict about drugs and alcohol. The first time is a warning. The second time your parents are called. The third time you get the boot.
College Freshman 2010-03-28T16:16:26Z
I personally don't use the computers on campus, because I have my own. I have been to the labs before and there are plenty of computers. They are all up to date.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
