Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

The students who offered responses regarding their overall experience at UMaine have overwhelmingly praised the University for its affect on the students who attend it. Many of the students make Maine their home, even after graduation. More in-state students remain in Maine, while more out-of-state students tend to move on to other areas, or back to their indigenous locations. The University has an abundance of assets of immeasurable value to offer to its students. There are activities and clubs for nearly every student interest. There is some organization that fits well into their majors, providing real experience within their fields to build resumes and get careers off to a head start, while tying them into a new circle of friends. The Career Center services for job placement after graduation are not only a help for current students, but they are available to students for one year at no charge after graduation.

The University of Maine prides itself on its reputation most importantly among its students, but also with its alumni. UMaine is a welcoming trip home during alumni functions and special events. Students graduating from UMaine also receive a one year complimentary membership to the University of Maine Alumni Association. Students also can purchase the licensing for only $10 to maintain their FirstClass e-mail accounts in order to stay in touch while apart from those who became close to them during their time at UMaine. Some students said that UMaine was their choice, some said it was not. Some students responded saying that they transferred to UMaine from other institutions, but nearly all of them have enjoyed their experiences at UMaine and are proud to call it their alma mater, andeven more whole-heartedly, their home.

Campus Dining at University of Maine

Overpriced, almost mandatory, lack of options

The basic meal plan on campus is $2,000 a Semester. If you live on campus you must atleast buy the basic plan. Hilltop is the only dinning facility that is regularly open. This facility is about 1/2 a mile from my dorm and almost a mile from others. The other options close by 7pm. My primary dining hall is Wells Central. On the weekends Wells opens at 11am, and serves breakfast until 2-3pm every weekend.

As a whole, the university does the bare minimum to feed its students and make itself look good on paper. Paying 4,000 for 8 months of a year for the bare minimum is unreasonable.

Food itself is bland, and usually is the same day to day, except for the occasional gimic, once again to make the school look good.

If you plan on going to UMO, Get off campus as soon as you can.

Something for Everyone

On our campus there is a greek organization for everyone out there. There are small and large organizations, where you can become super social, or make a difference in your organization. There are new and old ones, where you can create new traditions or celebrate the the old ones. There are party, outdoorsy, philanthropic/service, grade oriented honors groups. If you want something out of greek, that something is here.

The variety of dining here at UMO is wonderful. There is something for everyone! Vegan, vegitarian, and the carnivores!
