Most of the drugs pushed around on UMaine's campus outside of marijuana are prescription medications. However it may be perceived, the abuse of prescriptions is still illegal and will land you with a summons and court date when you are caught with them. Distribution of prescription medications in any amount is a violation of federal law, so it's just not a good idea anyway. The campus is very strict about drugs when they find them, and if you have enough drugs or enough people participating, the media attention you will get from that type of behavior will make you feel like a movie star. It's quite embarrassing to have your name known through the student newspaper, let alone the local and regional ones. So your best advice is to keep out of drugs, especially in large amounts or with several participants.
There are not many other widely known abused substances around campus, although students are aware that the use of highly addictive substances does exist. However, cocaine and meth use is very private and is typically not a problem for other UMaine students. The campus has many programs available to provide education and information about drugs and their prevalence on college campuses. There are a few different types of peer education programs that students may participate in, some are even for course credit.
