Students will never starve at UMBC. The dining hall, True Grit's, offers grilled selections, Italian food, kosher meals, made-to-order selections, salad bars, soups, and a wide selection of entrées. The Commons has a large selection of restaurants serving a range of food, including barbecue, burgers, Chinese, gelato, hot sandwiches, Mexican, Southwestern, salads, and subs/sandwiches. The campus also has a Starbucks and a Chick-fil-A, as well as Outtakes (commonly known by its former name, "The Spot"), an on-campus convenience store open for 23.5 hours a day. Unfortunately, students who keep halal or kosher tend to have fewer meal options.
When it comes to eating at UMBC, timing is everything. Most restaurants close by 8 p.m., leaving limited options late at night, but you can always grab food from Outtakes or choose pizza, a sub, or sandwich from True Grit's during its late-night hours. Overall, there is a diverse assortment of foods to please a wide range of students, but just make sure to eat your meals at the offered times, or you will miss out. And if you have dietary restrictions, look carefully at labels and nutritional information.
