Weather is not a problem. Maryland has all seasons and being in a city means you have lots of building cover even if you need to walk a few blocks.

City parking is always hard. For father away parking it is great that campus security will walk you- especially at night.

I think people are very accepting of diversity here. There is a wide range of ethnicities, backgrounds and religions here, though there are not very many men in the nursing program and occasionally they get slack for being here I think. sexual orientation, race and religion do not seem to be of issue here.

University of Maryland - Baltimore has excellent academics. I have been thoroughly impressed with the nursing program. The professors are open and welcoming, giving great advise when asked. They are more than willing to take the extra time to sit down with you and work with you to make you a more effective student. In addition the Student Success Center saves my life! Their resources are incredible.

they have pretty great meal options. food can be cooked in front of you, and they just got a sushi bar that makes fresh sushi all day.

We don't have Greek life that I know of.

Baltimore has a lot of opportunities to get involved, incredible farmer's markets (especially Jones Fall Expressway under 83). It's a quirky, fun place, provided you know how to look things up, talk to your neighbor and be spontaneous.

I'm in the traditional BSN program at UMB. I very much like it. The teachers are excellent and even though the workload is heavy there are multiple adjunct provided by the school to help. There are tutors, open labs, and study groups of which I attend open lab and study groups. This has helped me to grasp the material and get good grades on my validations. There are multiple internship/jobs for students after the first year/semester such as peer tutoring and student nurse jobs at the hospital across the street.

To get into the nursing program at University of Maryland School of Nursing you have serval things to do. You must fill out an application, get academic letters of recommendation, write a resume, write an essay, and take the TEAS. I found the TEAS the most stressful because I was told that your grade on that test greatly affected getting into the school. You want at least a 75% on that test to even get your application looked at. I had to put a lot of time into studying for that test it was much like preparing for the SATs. The rest was not too hard and things that are done for most admission into schools.

The nursing program has wonderful teachers who are very willing to help and listen to your concerns. They always have time for the students which is something I have never experienced at another school. The workload is definitely heavy, but it is given in a manageable way with programs to help you get through the material and open labs to practice skills. It has a very learning focused outlook which makes it easier grasp and conquer the workload.

Good variance of food. We have sushi, Starbucks, a cafe with sandwiches and salads, so there is a good bit of variety available. There are also several cafes and sandwich shops within walking distance that many of the students visit during breaks.

I would like to get an internship as a student nurse at the hospital next year. I am concerned with being able to get one because there is a high rate of applicants for it.

Charm city circulator + campus shuttle - both free
College Junior 2013-09-18T19:00:20Z
Health & Safety:
Being on campus feels relatively safe. There are several security guards patrolling and a guard at every entrance that requires school ID to gain entry. Escorts are available at any time.

There are some apartments within walking distance to the school, but the neighborhood is less than desirable. The university housing fills quickly and is respectable. There is a University shuttle which travels quite a distance on 3 separate routes. It's under-advertised. If I would have known about it when looking for housing, I feel it would have influenced my decision greatly.

I commute so I do not really know what night life is like. It is graduate school so its also a lot different than undergrad.

No nursing program is perfect, but if I had to do it all over again I would definitely come back.

I am a student nurse at UMMC and it has proven to be a worthwhile experience. I get paid $15 with differentials. Shifts are 12 hours, but you only have to work once each pay period (2 weeks). Many student nurses are hired at UMMC after graduation.

The is a UMD circulator that goes around the city which is fairly convenient. It does not cost extra.
College Junior 2013-08-17T01:50:11Z
Health & Safety:
For a city school, it is reasonably safe. The campus police and watch guards are always on duty. They do not let any strange people hang around and you must have student ID to enter buildings.

There is no meal plan or dining hall. There is a food court in the nursing school with good food but it's at normal prices.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
