its an HBCU

UMES is definitely culturally diverse. They are so many different type of cultures on campus including African, Ethiopian, Chinese, Arabian, just to name a few.

UMES has many different students who attend the school and they are accepted like everyone else.

The University of Maryland Eastern prides itself on being a diverse school. The student body comprises people from numerous states, countries, and continents, and many of the students who come from all of these places are drawn to UMES because of this diversity. Students also choose the University because of its affordability; plus, it is easy to receive scholarships, grants, and loans. The majority of students who attend UMES receive some type of aid, so no one is prejudiced against by other students.
The wide variety of students who come to UMES add to its culture.

The minority clubs are well represented and try their best to expose other students to their worlds. Religious associations are available for students who want to continue practicing their religions at school. Political organizations on campus try to encourage students to get involved in politics and become active in their communities. In the end, a student who graduates from UMES will be cultured and exposed to what life in the real world entails.
