College Prowler Take
One of Maryland’s best attributes is its location. Oh, and by the way, one of Maryland’s worst attributes is its location. The campus is conveniently located between Washington, DC and Baltimore, both of which are only a quick Metro train ride or drive away. It’s the city of College Park (CP) that concerns students, and it’s the students that concern the residents of the town. CP residents take pride in UMCP, but students tend to wonder how sincere that love is given that the community is an extension of the campus, and residents are slightly forced to be a part of it. As for CP’s offerings, there are restaurants and eateries galore, and there’s a Metro station that allows students to escape the focus on dining and the monotony of the town. It’s not all that bad, though. Some students are so fulfilled with campus, which acts as its own pseudo-city, that they rarely need to step off it. College Park would be a great town if DC and Baltimore weren’t so close by and so easily accessible from campus with or without a car because these two great cities make College Park seem like only a fair town. The business district seems to be flooded with places to eat, and while there are malls just minutes away, College Park is actually the perfect size for getting your hands on basic necessities and returning to campus quickly. The UMCP campus tends to be more enjoyable than the town of College Park—that’s for sure.

Atmosphere? There are 25,000 kids your age just anxious to enjoy themselves in an over-the-top fashion, and anything you'd need to do this is sold in a nearby store, and DC is a metro ride away. Let's be honest, College Park would likely not exist without the University. But because of that, the campus is so vibrant that it is the local atmosphere, and it's awesome.

College Park is awesome. Anyone...
College Park is awesome. Anyone who steps onto the campus loves it. The town is okay—there’s enough to do to stay happy. In summertime, there are lots of parties on Frat Row and around the Knox boxes. Greenbelt is close by to see movies and to shop at the mall. Go to a sports game; that’s a must! Terps rule, and they have a serious winning history. DC is close enoughto visit, and so is Baltimore. |

Check out the top of Byrd Stadium...
Check out the top of Byrd Stadium when it gets dark. On a clear night, you can see the Washington Monument in DC and maybe even the Capitol Building from the top of the stands—a real must see. Once I was there in a ‘No Trespass Zone,’ which is visited only by fools and the cops who are trying to keep them from doing stupid things. Not sure what the status is for that spot these days, but in case you stumble onto any of the many great sites and hidden treasures on campus, remember not to do anything illegal, criminal, or just simply stupid. There are those who’d like to appreciate the little things at UMCP campus on a whole new romantic level. |

The atmosphere is a mix between...
The atmosphere is a mix between college town and long-standing community. Definitely a healthy mix and a nice balance between long-term residents and college students. DC is nice to visit and easy to get to, as is Baltimore through public transportation. Stay away from certain parts of DC. |

College Park is very...
College Park is very self-sufficient. You can get anything you need right there, and the Metro is very accessible if you want to go to DC. You can venture from there via train to other neighboring states. There is easy access to everything—do take advantage. |
