College Prowler Take
The small family of College Park bars includes Cornerstone, Sante Fe, Bentley’s, and the distant 94th Aero Squadron, and all but the 94th are right off campus. With only a handful of bars in town and no bar on campus, it’s a good thing that DC and Baltimore are not too far away. As for parties on Fraternity Row, times have changed: Alcohol-focused parties are fading, and UMCP seems to be slowly changing into a barren, dry campus as it continues to crack down on on-campus revelries. This is where living off campus comes in handy for students who crave alcohol and parties. There are thousands of above-age students on campus and even though not all of them are patrons of the bar scene, a good number enjoy the experience of doing the bar thing on a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and/or Saturday night. Now that the University has become more strict about on-campus parties, these bars may become more crowded as students search for alternatives. Students also bring the nightlife into their own homes by throwing parties that don’t require having an ID, being on a list, waiting to get in, or keeping a tab.

There's always a party somewhere at Maryland. The frats frequently host all sorts of events and there's lots of bars within walking distance. Santa Fe Cafe, usually referred to as 'Fe, is probably one of the most popular, along with the Thirsty Turtle.

Most parties are the same—a lot of drinking and people just gathering up. There are a few bars. Cornerstone and the Fe are the best ones and often have a lot of people and fun. The Turtle is perfect for underclassmen—most people in there are underclassmen, so it is a good place to get to know your class. There is also Bentley's, but that is more of a graduate bar. The bar scene is alright and the party scene okay—not a lot of variety but still worth it.

Maryland is labeled as a "party school." There is a party on campus every day of the week—you just have to find them.

There are tons of parties on and around Knox Road and at Frat Row during the beginning of semesters. Frat parties are a lot of fun (I was SAE), but they get old after a year or so. Then the bars take over—there are only three. Cornerstone, Bentley’s and |

Unfortunately, there are no clubs whatsoever in College Park. Good news, though: there are many in nearby DC and Baltimore.
Bar Prowler
While there are no clubs in College Park, there are plenty of bars! Okay, there are five bars, but they’re rarely empty and are utilized by students from many schools throughout the area on any given night of the week.
Organization Parties
Given that there are nearly 600 organizations on the campus, you can imagine the potential for events at UMCP, in College Park, and in the area. An array of various student groups throw events throughout the year.
Bar Listings
Similar to local establishments where servers wear “flair,” Bentley’s has a certain T.G.I. Friday’s feel. On the walls you’ll find Maryland artifacts like sports jerseys and the like. Happy hour is 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday with 20 percent off all drinks. Bud Light drafts and bottles are $2 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays feature numerous $2 drink specials, and Friday is 50 percent off all drinks. R.J. Bentley’s 7323 Baltimore Ave. (301) 277-8898
Students can find a collection of photos and memorabilia from the good ole days in College Park and the University of Maryland. Cornerstone has College Park’s longest happy hour from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. Some of the Cornerstone Grill & Loft’s offerings include pool tables, keno, glass yards and half-yards of beer, and Direct TV for NFL, NCAA basketball, WWF wrestling, and other special athletic events. Also featured inside is the largest draft beer system in College Park—28 domestic, microbrew, and import beers on tap. Cornerstone Grill & Loft 7325 Baltimore Ave. (301) 779-7044
The newest addition to College Park nightlife, this two-story restaurant and bar easily has the longest lines to get into every night of the week. Check out their menu—the sweet potato fries are a town favorite—and then head upstairs to the huge, Greek-themed dance floor where a D.J. spins records and grants shout-outs to dancers. The sports bar downstairs also hosts a beer pong league every week. Thirsty Turtle 7416 Baltimore Ave.
This place has been around since 1984! The Fe is by far one of the best bars in College Park, and that’s not just because there are only five of them. The décor is fun: tall ceilings with a real Southwestern, Santa Fe-look and feel. Drinking at the Fe is not only intoxicating due to the alcohol, but because of the overall ambiance. It’s fun! The outdoor patio is nice, too, but the inside bar is something you won’t want to miss. Open until 2 a.m. Monday–Thursday and 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Closed Sundays. Santa Fe Café 4410 Knox Rd. (301) 779-1345
What to Do if You're Not 21
The truth is, if you're under 21 in the city of College Park, you're probably out of luck for entertainment after 11 p.m. Once in a while an event on campus attracts enough attention to distract students from the bars, but generally, students find themselves clambering toward a bar or a house party off campus for entertainment. Or you can go bowling in TerpZone at Stamp, see a movie, or go into D.C.
