The parking situation at UMass is not the best. The entire campus is surrounded by parking lots, which is great, but often times the lots are packed. When you live in Southwest, the nearest parking lots are a bit of a walk, so you will most likely use your car less. Students should utilize the free bus ride around campus if possible. Bikes are also prominent around campus. For freshman year, a car is not needed. Once you move off campus, a car brings around more convenience. Once students move off campus, they need to provide extra time to find parking.
