Frat presence is limited

No self-respecting upperclassmen go to frat parties. They're mostly for freshmen who are underage, therefore can't go to the bars, and don't know upperclassmen with apartments. They're easy to get to with frequent bus service but are often far too crowded. Luckily, the frat presence at UMass is limited; you can seek it out if you feel like it, but can easily avoid frats.

Depends on your crowd

Depending on who you hang around with, drugs are either HUGE here or nonexistent. Drinking is generally more popular, but even that isn't a big deal.

Expensive and Innconvient Parking

When you look around campus there are plenty of parking lots and parking spaces, which makes you think that parking on campus is good. This is not the case. The average parking permit costs more than $250 per year, and the locations of the lots are not very convenient or close to the dorms. And if you have a friend or your parents visiting during the week, they will have to buy a pass for the day or else they WILL get a ticket.
