College Prowler Take
UMass dining commons are nothing special. Although, considering the number of people they feed, they keep the shelves stocked and the cafeterias relatively clean. If you want a little variety, your best bet is to eat at one of the many cafeterias located all across campus. Students have the option of purchasing off-campus meal plans (OCMP), allowing them to dine at many of the restaurants located near campus. If, at the end of the semester, you haven’t fully redeemed all the meals you purchased, you don’t get back the remaining balance. Therefore, buying the most basic and inexpensive meal plan is highly advisable until you figure it out for yourself; I promise you won’t starve at UMass—if anything, you will gain weight. Saying that one dining common is better than another really depends on what type of food you like, because each one is better at making one of the regular dishes than the rest of them. Over half of the non-dormitory buildings have someplace to eat, even if it’s just a small coffee and pastry stand. And if you are a coffee drinker, almost everywhere on campus has good coffee, even the dining commons. Regardless of what you like, and no matter how picky an eater you are, somewhere on campus will have food that you are able to choke down.

I eat at the Berkshire DC every day. It's right next to my dorm building and is new! People like to complain about the food, but the truth is that UMass dining has won awards. The sushi bar is amazing, and who doesn't love the late-night specials? Even my parents look forward to eating here for free every time they come to visit. There are options for everyone.

It's Pretty Good, I Like It!
A-
There are four dining commons on campus and some other fast food-esque type resturants taht you can occasionally go to. The best dining commons is Berkshire, I would have to say. The others aren't that bad but the food does not look as appetizing at the other places and in my opinion, there are not as many options. At home my mom is not a very good cook, so I really like having options and I generally like the food here.

Berkshire is good
A-
There's pretty good food and good variety. Late night from 9:30 to midnight is a good idea, but the things they serve at those times aren't always good.

The UMass food is plentiful and varied. Since it is meant to serve tens of thousands of people a day, UMass Dining Services produces many types of food and is able to keep its main facilities stocked. They are also able to provide a great variety in tastes. However, as a byproduct of their assembly-line style, the quality is not always that great and certainly seems like cafeteria food sometimes. However, most times it is high quality and plentiful. Being able to have all-you-can-eat ribs, spicy chicken, BLTs, and cupcakes in one sitting is good by any standards. It truly is deserving of the Ivy award.
