Yes - Available in all academic and administrative buildings on campus.
College Prowler Take
Ironically, UMass has a very reputable computer science program, yet disappointing resources for everyone else. Relying on campus computer labs is risky because they have bizarre hours and get extremely packed. On the bright side, UMass does have excellent Internet access called Ethernet. Getting a mandatory OIT account is relatively easy and cheap, but if anything goes wrong it can take days before you actually get to speak with a live customer service representative. The Office of Information Technologies is wretchedly understaffed, a problem that is only compounded at the beginning of each semester when all the students are trying to get squared away at the same time. The library labs probably have the nicest computers and free printing, which is huge. Regardless of whether you are going to live on or off campus, bring your own computer. If you don’t have one and can’t afford to purchase a new one, just sell your car because you won’t need that.

Wireless in Dorms Would Be Nice, Labs Are Great
A
We have wireless all around campus except in the dorms which is annoying. There are several computer labs, all with beautiful computers... you just have to know where to go to avoid waiting.

Computer and printing access is awful
F
For an extremely large public university, there are not enough printing opportunities on campus. There are not enough computers, either. I am torn away from the library computer station because there are never any available. For the past three years, I have been discouraged by the computer accessability.

Considering how old some of the buildings are at UMass, the Internet hookups are pretty decent. The library computers are useful, but you have to figure out when there will be classes held at them so you can avoid that. I never really had any major problems concerning the computers here. |

Setting up my computer account for...
Setting up my computer account for the computer in my room was the biggest headache, except that I didn’t even have a choice because most of my classes required us to do homework on the Internet. The computer labs in the library offer free printing, but sometimes, they are so busy, not to mention the hike it takes just to get from my room to the library. The Internet is fast around here; on the other hand, the computers in the dormitory labs are extremely old and outdated. One good thing about living in the dorms though is that you always know someone with a computer and usually a printer. Even with all this said, I recommend any new students to bring their own. |

All registration for courses and most other administrative matters can be handled online through a program called “SPIRE” on the UMass Web site.
