College Prowler Take
I wouldn’t say that Greek life dominates the social scene, but it is a large part of it. Some of the frats and sororities are very involved with the local community and with school projects, and some are not. For the amount of Greek organizations on campus, you’d think they would be more visible; although, from time to time, they will host an event and make their presence known.
You may occasionally see some frat brothers ride their bicycles off of a ramp into the campus pond—which is hilarious. The pond is only about three feet deep in the middle, so they all come out of the water with a serious limp. The frats have a long tradition at UMass, and joining one is a big commitment. Most likely, because there are so many, the frats at UMass play a larger role in campus life than most other universities.

Greek life isn't too big at UMass. There are a lot of fraternities and sororities on campus, but compared to the population of UMass, it's not too popular. The frat parties on campus are gross. Avoid them.

It has a big role freshman year because that is where you go to party. But, then you realize they are overcrowded with too many dudes and stop going.

It’s terrible to say, but it’s the ‘freshman thing’ to do. The frat houses are a place for underage people to party and drink. Sororities are viewed as snobby, but I know plenty of girls in them who are sweethearts. Fraternities and sororities at UMass are definitely looked down upon, but the people who are in them love being Greek. |

Frats Think They Are Too Cool
C
People in Greek life are usually judged by those who aren't, but its ultimately accepted. Frat parties are like Animal house. They can be funny but they can be straight disgusting. If you wanna be a part of it, its there for you, but there are other places to go and there are other ways to make friends.
