College Prowler Take

Without a doubt, UMass has some remarkable student bodies and more than its share of attractive people. By walking around campus, one can observe some beautiful scenery. Dozens of possibilities exist for meeting people, and maybe it’s just me, but doesn’t it always seem to happen when you least expect it?

On a scale from one to ten of sexual promiscuity, one being a convent, and ten being a brothel, UMass ranks about a seven or eight. Random hookups happen here all the time; and to people who forgot to register for “Closing Window Shades 101,” it’s a valuable course. On the whole, everywhere you go, people are the same with a few exceptions; every stereotypical guy and girl can be found here in great numbers. (If you want to see people who all dress, talk, and behave the same way, I suggest any frat or sorority.) A valid concern your parents may have about sending you to UMass is that you are going to focus more on getting phone numbers than good grades—welcome to college.

UMass women are very easy on the eyes, and they are a dime a dozen. Most of them have their heads on straight, but some you’d swear do not belong in college.

There Is No Typical Student.

A+

There are all kinds, it all depends on what group you're in and what part of campus you're in. There are the crazy, done-up party-ers, the hippies, the artsy folk, the outdoorsy people, the nerd burgers, and everything in between.

Freedom to Express Yourself!

A+

I feel that with every step you take you see someone different. This is one of the reasons that I love Umass! Anyone can find people that they get along with here if they put forth the effort! You definitely can see that within differnt parts of campus and even different schools that there is a certain "type" that gathers in one area. However, I feel that you can walk around and express yourself on this campus without worrying what people are thinking about you. Girls, for example, you see dressing in all ranges, from dressed up, with nice boots, ugss, etc. to girls in sweat pants. But none of that matters here

You’ll find your ghetto folk, your rich brats, your hippies, and your nerds. The diversity on this campus is one of its high points. Any kind of person could come here and find a group of people to fit in with.

Facts

Birth Control Available?

Yes - Condoms and spermicides are available at the UHS Pharmacy. Birth control pills and other birth control methods are available by appointment at health services. Emergency contraception is also available.

Social Scene

Contrary to what you might expect from a big school, students at UMass can easily form groups of close friends and network to all areas of campus. Because of a common living situation or class schedule, students often find themselves interacting with the same people on a daily basis. In general, the people enrolled at UMass are very friendly; most freshmen are probably just as eager to make new friends as you are.

Hookups or Relationships?

The wide array of personalities at any school really makes this topic subjective. If you are looking for your future husband/wife at a frat party, I wish you all the luck in the world. Then again, if you are looking for just one night of company, you probably won't find him/her in the library. As an estimated guess, I would say that roughly 75 percent of the relationships that begin at UMass are not altogether serious, and therefore end at UMass.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

The best place to meet guys and girls is in the dorms where you live, and usually on the same floor. The number of relationships that have resulted from this scenario far exceeds any other. Another good place to meet guys and girls is in class, but at least pretend that you went there to take notes. Parties, because they are usually huge, are host to more single people than you can shake a stick at. UMass is crammed with attractive people, which you could look at as a good thing because of all the variety, or a bad thing because of all the competition.

Dress Code

All shapes and sizes. Although, I think the frat guys have a mandatory Abercrombie & Fitch dress code.
