Frat parties
College Prowler Take
Not only is the nightlife at UMass unlike anywhere else, but you can find a party just about any night of the week. Commonly used terms, such as malted Mondays, toasted Tuesdays, wet Wednesdays, and thirsty Thursdays, attest to the fact that UMass is a party school through and through. The bigger parties usually occur at the frat houses, off-campus apartments, and downtown Amherst, whereas the smaller parties (if you can call them that) generally happen in the dorms. There are many annual parties on and off campus, like the Hobart Ho-down—many of which inevitably escalate into riots that you could set your watch to. The bars in Amherst are good, while the clubs are few and far between. Certain places are known for having either the best parties, okay parties, or no parties at all. Southwest and Central have very spirited parties on a rather frequent basis, while Orchard Hill and Sylvan aren’t quite as fervent. The same holds true for the larger apartment complexes like Puffton, Brandywine, and the Boulders, as compared to the smaller Colonial Village and Alpine Commons. The amount of alcohol that gets consumed at some of these parties is staggering. So, if you do choose UMass, be prepared to change your entire sleeping schedule because you have never seen anything like this.

UMass is a lot of fun. If you can't find a party to go to, there are always parties going on in the dorms since the rules are never really inforced

The bars in Amherst are just expensive frat parties, but sometimes that is better than nothing. UMass is great because you can just walk around and find a party any night of the week. Just remember to bring $5 because that is how much a cup usually costs. |

Always Something to Do
A
There are bars in town and the surrounding areas if you're 21, but there are a few places you can get in underage on the week nights. Campus buses are free around campus and between the colleges at night but they can get packed. Taxis are available but usually on campus you walk, so wear comfortable footwear. If you don't have anywhere to go in particular it doesn't matter, usually there are huge ragers Thursday through Saturday you can just walk into for free.

Bars for Those Who Can, House Parties for Those Who Can't
A-
UMass has 8 bars within walking distance of campus, and even more near common student hot-spots. If you want to dance in a sweaty bar and grind against questionable girls, go to Charlies. If you want CHEAP, STRONG, BIG drink, go to The Spoke.

Plenty of parties
A-
There are always parties. Even if there is not a party, it is almost guaranteed that someone will want to party in the dorms. I find this a plus, because whenever you need to relax after a lot of work you wont be let down.

The clubs in Amherst are awful, they are tiny and don’t offer much in the way of music. If you have your heart set on a club, go to Holyoke, Northampton, or Springfield. Springfield has a great club called the Hippodrome that a lot of UMass students go to.
Bar Prowler
Amherst has a lot of bars, most of which are good. The Blue Wall is the only bar on campus, a good place to go if you don’t want to risk driving home. The center of Amherst is always lively on the weekends and worth checking out because of all the bars, which also makes it a great place to go bar-hopping.
Organization Parties
All of the athletic teams on campus, varsity and intramural, throw parties regularly. Many of them are located at houses where members of the team live, or at local bars and restaurants. Most every registered student organization throws a party at least once a year. Most of the parties thrown by UMass clubs are open to everyone, although some require membership of some form.

What to Do if You're Not 21
Fake IDs don’t work around here, so don't even try because all of the alcohol-serving businesses are well aware of the fact that most college students are under the age of 21. The frats let underage people in all the time. Also, you can get away with drinking in your dorm or at an apartment if you’re under 21. But, of course, since all of these things are illegal, I do not recommend them. Your best bet is to head to Northampton and catch a live show, or any one of a million things that don’t involve booze.
