The restaurants off campus are amazing, and most of them deliver. You can get good food in Amherst at places like Bueno Y Sano, Veracruzana, Black Sheep Deli, Antonio’s, Pasta E Basta, and DP Dough (the best calzones, and yes, they deliver). There are also many good restaurants in neighboring Northampton that are well worth the pilgrimage. Working at one of the off-campus restaurants in Amherst has a lot of fringe benefits—namely, free food! A lot of the restaurants will trade foods for employees, so essentially, when you work at one restaurant, you can also eat for free at the other restaurants in town, but you didn’t hear this from me. Another great part about Amherst restaurants is that they are a fun place to hang out. They are always playing good music, and most have beautiful murals painted all over the walls. On the weekends they stay open very late to cater to the many people walking around town. Most students starting at UMass as freshmen learn which restaurants to eat at in town before they even know where the dining commons are.

There are not a lot of good...
There are not a lot of good restaurants in the area, and there are no good restaurants within walking distance. The campus is not close to town, so the school banks on a lot of students getting meal plans and eating on campus. The only good place for sushi is Osaka in Northampton, the town over. A good place for wings is Hangar. There are some pizza places around like La Piazza and Antonio's.

Amherst has some good restaurants...
Amherst has some good restaurants if you want to spend a couple bucks. If you're into pizza, there's a great pizza place in downtown Amherst called Antonio's. That place makes some awesome pies and some wild pizzas by the slice.

Off Campus Dining
A
I really enjoy Antonios. Since it is by the slice, it makes for a great snack or dinner option. They have really exotic pizzas which make for great variety. Along Route 9, there are a lot of chain restuarants like Chilis, the 99, Applebees. Moderate prices. The Rt 9 diner is also a great option.

You can get any type of food here, no matter what you are in the mood for. I try to eat at a new restaurant every day because there is so much to choose from. They usually have good music playing in the background, too. |
