When the sun is out its beautiful, sucks walking to class when its pouring and then you have to sit in a freezing classroom while you're drenched.

Guys & Girls:
There are a good amount of attractive guys but many of them are just looking for hook ups.
College Freshman 2013-11-25T02:12:30Z
Very diverse, our schools has many international students
College Freshman 2013-11-25T02:11:44Z
Many computer labs and printing stations, the wifi can be very slow at times and stop responding
College Freshman 2013-11-25T02:10:28Z
Don't let any freshman guys into their parties and they usually host parties on off campus houses so its hard to get there and back from campus
College Freshman 2013-11-25T02:09:15Z
Theres a metro thats convenient and the hurry cane runs to popular locations but it should also run on weekdays.
College Freshman 2013-11-25T02:07:50Z
I dont remember if i applied for financial aid on the common app but i got no scholarships and the tuition is very expensive.

Lots of good shopping places, some bad neighborhoods near by though
College Freshman 2013-11-25T02:05:20Z
Miami is an awesome city with tons of concerts and clubs. The beach is a 20 min cab ride away.
College Freshman 2013-11-25T02:04:34Z
Super expensive because its Coral Gables, not many apartments near campus and traffic is terrible

Guys & Girls:
Guys are unfriendly douche bags and the girls are shallow.

Miami is one of the most vibrant cities in the world -- it's a hub of culture, primarily nightlife. There's always something to do around, if you're looking for it. It varies from concerts to sports events to book fairs ... and the list goes on.

The Metro is really useful -- it runs to Dadeland Mall, Sunset Place, Dadeland South (Target, Best Buy, etc.), Coconut Grove (clubs), Brickell (clubs & restaurants), downtown Miami, and the Miami Airport. The on-campus shuttle is useful as well -- it runs to Sunset Place and Coconut Grove on the weekends and throughout campus and to the Marine Science Campus every day of the week. Taxis come to campus all the time and there are plenty of Zipcars available.

The residential colleges that house all freshmen and upperclassmen that want and get housing are relatively old, somewhat cramped, and not particularly clean. The elevators break a lot in the freshman dorms, and the bathrooms are really disgusting. It's a really great social environment to meet people in, though, and they do hold great events for the residents to participate in, learn cool things, and explore Miami. The University Village, where the upperclassmen have the option to live, is much nicer but also much more expensive and only available to juniors and seniors.

The University of Miami is great for some people, and everyone will definitely experience new things here. It isn't a great place to be if you're not into the party scene at all, though. Most people go out every weekend at the least, and you WILL be judged if you don't. There are a lot of interesting things to do on campus, both during the week and on the weekend, but the way that partying dominates life can sometimes overshadow this. The U is a great place with a lot of great people, but a little more partying than some can bear.

Everyone loves the Canes, and everyone gets excited for the sports teams. Some people play intramurals, others don't, but there's definitely a scene on campus for them if you look.
College Sophomore 2013-11-24T04:39:09Z
There are computer labs in the dorms and plenty available in the library. Wifi kind of sucks, so if you really worry about needing it here and now, I recommend an Ethernet cable. Otherwise, you can plug in your laptop in all the classrooms. Basically everyone has a computer, but I guess you don't NEED one.

Guys & Girls:
The typical Miami guy is hot -- but not as hot as he thinks he is. Most guys (especially the hot ones) are out for a random (or recurring) hook up, and most girls are willing to oblige. There are a few good guys out there, but they're definitely harder to find.
College Sophomore 2013-11-24T04:25:56Z
Basically everyone drinks. The majority of people smoke something or other. A lot of kids try more hardcore stuff. Even the kids on substance free floors do things sometimes. It's the campus culture, and it seems like a lot of people come here specifically because they were promised the ability to drink every night of the week -- and it's true, a lot of people do. Most people save it for Thursday and the weekends, but there are some people celebrating Funday Sunday and Grove Tuesdays. Don't be tricked into thinking it's a super academic school -- it's much more of a lifestyle school. And that lifestyle is PARTY.

Everything's really pretty lenient. The police really only interfere if it seems like someone already is or is going to be hurt.
College Sophomore 2013-11-24T04:16:59Z
You can't get more diverse than Miami. Everyone's from somewhere interesting that you've never heard anything about, or has a really interesting economic background, or has different beliefs than you do. It's absolutely spectacular and you'll learn something new about some culture (maybe a subculture within your own) every day.
College Sophomore 2013-11-24T04:14:35Z
The food on campus isn't REALLY bad, but it's definitely not good. A variety of options are available at each meal in the dining hall, but it really isn't such a variety once you spend more than a month there. The quality just isn't great and the options are very repetitive. Also, the desserts are really disappointing -- NEVER ANY COOKIES, ALWAYS THE SAME BLAND CAKE.

Health & Safety:
The campus is really safe, in general. There's the occasional warning that goes out, but the authorities are very diligent in maintaining a safe campus. In regards to the students, police are mostly there to interfere if they are having some sort of issue that could be harmful to them -- passing out, girls in sketchy situations, hard drugs, etc. The medical center is really efficient and helpful and offers free flu shots out at stands around the fall season.

You seriously can't beat the Miami weather. It's considered "cold" when the temperature goes below 85. Sure, the rain can pop up at surprising moments, but you'll be fine as long as you wait out the occasional pouring and keep an umbrella around.

UM is awesome! It's great to be in Miami!
